Mark Dayton vs. Tom Emmer: The recount timeline
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has published his proposed timeline for the recount process in the governor's race.![]()
The goal: Dec. 14.
Hopefully he ran all this by Heidi Collins over at Fox9, just to make sure she's OK with the planning. Wouldn't want her going off again.
Nov. 23: Initial meeting of the State Canvassing Board, 10 a.m., Room 10, State Office Building, St. Paul to certify existing election results, determine the need for any automatic recount, designate a state recount official and adopt a recount plan
Nov. 29: The recount begins at 9 a.m. at various locations around the state (exact locations TBD).
Dec. 7: Deadline for deputy recount officials to finish sorting the ballots.
Dec. 8-10: State Canvassing Board meetings (locations TBD) to certify any recounts in state House races and to determine whether there are challenged ballots in the gubernatorial recount.
Dec. 14: State Canvassing Board meetings (locations TBD) to certify the gubernatorial election.
That may not be -- and judging by the level of vitriol in some quarters, likely won't be -- the end of it. Either side can challenge the result in court.
Jan. 3, 2011: New governor sworn in (if the recount and legal back-and-forth has resulted in a winner by then.
