Pete and Alisha Arnold want you to vote on their abortion [UPDATE]
We live in a democracy, right? So Pete and Alisha Arnold of Apple Valley have decided to let you cast your vote on whether or not Alisha should have an abortion. (Update after the jump: Anti-abortion hoax?)
Pete and Alisha Arnold say they're serious.
The clock is ticking, by the way. They say the last day she can legally terminate her pregnancy is Dec. 7. He announced on Sept. 28 that Alisha was pregnant. But there are issues.
"wOOt. I am pretty excited about it. We have had difficulty in the past with three unsuccessful pregnancies and I am hoping this time will be better. What worries me though is that two of them had issues with genetics, the fetus didn't develop properly, heart beat was slow, centerline disorder kind of stuff,: he wrote. "But I am excited at the prospects of being a father. I'll cross my fingers and toes that this one goes off without a hitch. Alisha's uncertainties however are valid."
So they launched a website called birthornot.com, where they post news about the pregnancy and ultrasound photos of the fetus. They also posted a polldaddy.com poll asking, "Should We Give Birth or Have an Abortion?"
Update: It sounds crazy. Are they for real? Increasingly is looks like the whole thing's a hoax.
They told Gawker they're serious -- at least about prodding some discussion about direct democracy. He's says he's a Libertarian. And she says the abortion vote is no prank.
"It's definitely not a pro-life campaign," she said. "I believe in a woman's right to choose."
Take our own poll and then watch video of their ultrasound:
