Randy Moss made it sound like he'd rather be Patriot.
This is now officially a disastrous season: NFL.com is reporting that Randy Moss has been waived by the Minnesota Vikings.

That bizarre press conference yesterday when he told the Patriots how much he loved them and missed them probably helped moved things along.

In the wake of the Vikings' 18-28 loss against the New England Patriots yesterday, Moss told reporters he was no longer going to answer their questions, just questions he asked of himself, and he then went off on a weird paean to the Patriots.

"I miss them guys. I miss the team. It was hard for me to come here and play. It's been an up and down roller coaster emotionally all week," Moss told reporters, reflecting on his three years in New England. "And then to come in here and see those guys running plays that I know what they're doing, the success they had on the field, the running game; I know what kind of feeling they have in their locker room, man, and I just want to be able to tell the guys that I miss the hell out of them, every last helmet in that locker room."

Then he wrapped it up with a smack at the Vikings for not listening to his insight on the Patriots, and called the Patriots' Bill Belichick the greatest coach in NFL history. The only thing missing was a commentary on the size and scope of Brett Favre's extra-curricular woes.

Geez, he just launched his new website:

Back to the drawing board.
And what the heck is the NFL going to do with its stockpile of Moss Vikings jersies now? Maybe they'll turn into a collector's item.

There's been some speculation that Moss may have pissed a few folks off by not traveling back to Minnesota with the team, too. But coach Brad Childress said at a press conference today that that wasn't the case: Moss was given the OK remain in New England after the game to be with family, USA Today reported.

But according to the NFL.com reporter who broke the waiver story, Michael Lombardi:

"Childress told the team in meeting they waived Moss as Moss did not go back with the team to Minnesota. Moss was not in the meeting."

Linebacker Ben Leber told the Strib Childress was short and simple with the news:

"No reason, really, [he] just wanted to give everybody a heads-up and say this is what's going on, and that's it," Leber said. "He didn't really dive into any details, and just said that's what were going to go with."

Late Monday, Childress issued the following statement:

"This decision was made based on what we thought was in the best interests of the Minnesota Vikings, both in the short and long term," said Head Coach Brad Childress. "We wish Randy the best as he moves forward in his career."

My how time flies when you're having fun watching a soap opera. It seems like only yesterday Moss was being welcomed back to town as the savior of a season that already looked in peril. Brett Favre finally had someone to throw the ball to! This is what, a few days short of a month, with four appearances in purple?

Let the mooning begin.
