Tom Hackbarth goes looking for a girlfriend.
Republican state Rep. Tom Hackbarth was probably looking forward to the power associated with being the the next chairman of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

But that was before he took a loaded pistol with him in search of his online girlfriend.

House Speaker-elect Kurt Zellers issued a statement today saying that Hackbarth's weird behavior has cost him the post, at least for now.

Due to an incident on Tuesday, November 16, State Representative Tom Hackbarth has been suspended from any current and pending leadership roles within the House GOP Caucus. The suspension will remain in effect until the issue is fully resolved.

Hat tip: PIM.

In case you missed it, a security camera caught Hackbarth parking his pickup truck next to Planned Parenthood in St. Paul. A clinic guard called the cops when he saw the pistol on the stranger's waist.

Police arrived, found him angry and confrontational, and took away his gun. No charges were filed, and Hackbarth, who has a license for concealed carry, got the weapon back yesterday.

He says he was trying to track down a woman he met online.
