Snow tow sucks
Even though this is our second big storm this winter, people still aren't getting the snowstorm parking rules. More cars were towed this weekend--1,154, to be exact --than in the big mid-November storm. Happy holidays!

Minneapolis towed 525 cars on Day 1 of the snow emergency (Saturday overnight into Sunday) and 629 on Day 2 (Sunday into this morning).

So for the love of your car and your wallet, get outside right this second and make sure your parking job is by the book. Here's what's allowed today:

Day 3 Parking Rules

Remember, there are lots of ways to make sure you know about a snow emergency and don't get towed. You can sign up for text messages or e-mail alerts from the City. And if you don't understand the rules, the City has a handy snow emergency guide on its website. Here's a quick review:

Day 1 - 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.:

A Snow Emergency will be declared no later than 6 p.m. on any given day. At 9 p.m. on that day, Snow Emergency parking rules begin.

Park on either side of non-Snow Emergency routes (these streets DO NOT have the red sign: Snow Emergency Route).

Do not park on either side of the street with the red sign: Snow Emergency Route. Snow plows will clear those streets first.

Day 2 - 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

At 8 a.m., Day Two parking rules begin.

Park on the odd side of non-Snow Emergency Route streets (example: house address number 1359 Maple or 2513 17th Ave.).

Park on either side of streets with the red sign: Snow Emergency Route.

Do not park on the EVEN side of non-Snow Emergency routes. (Example: house address number: 1356 Maple or 2512 17th Ave.)

Do not park on either side of parkways.

Day 3 - 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

At 8 a.m., Day Three parking rules begin.

Park on even side of non-Snow Emergency Route streets. (Example: house address number: 1356 Maple or 2512 17th Ave.)

Park on either side of streets marked with the red sign: Snow Emergency Route and you may park on parkways.

Do not park on the ODD side of non-Snow Emergency Route streets (example: house address number 1359 or 2513 17th Ave.).

Also, note that any day of an emergency, you're allowed to park on a street once it's fully been plowed--cleared clean and plowed to the curb. But if you're as paranoid as we are, it might not be worth the risk.
