"No Negro's Allowed" at Mark Prior's Wisconsin "gentlemens club"
Mark Prior has cheesed off a lot of folks in Abbotsford, Wis., and not just because he wants to open a strip joint right next to City Hall and the library.
"No Negro's Allowed"
The real issue is that he posted a "No Negro's Allowed" sign on the front door of the property. (Yes, we see that he's grammar challenged too, but let us keep our eye on the ball here.)
There's that pesky Civil Rights Act of 1964 to deal with, of course. The one that says, "All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin."
Constitutional issues aside, you have to wonder why a guy would want to bring down the scorn of his neighbors by posting a sign like that. Did he feel like he missed out on the action in Greensboro?
Mark Prior has discriminating tastes in customers.
Professor Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, an African American historian at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, probably struck the right tone: "Our mistake is sometimes we look for logic in something that is just plain stupid."
