St. Paul police say one of the 2006 Vulcan Krewe was involved in a hit-and-run over the weekend.
It just wouldn't be a real Winter Carnival unless the Vulcans were in trouble.

A customer standing on the patio of a bar in St. Paul told cops he saw the driver of a vintage Ford fire truck back into a car, then drive away, ignoring attempts to stop him.

According to the report, the driver was a 2006 Vulcan Krewe member named Dallas Apfelbacher, a.k.a. the former Count Embrious. That's the romantic one!

Don't get stuck.
Here we go again. Snow emergencies have been declared in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. Parking restrictions begin at 9 p.m.

Remember that crews can only plow the full width of the street if cars are out of the way. And if you forget, you're going to kick yourself, because your car may end up with a ticket, or in the impound lot.

Here's a refresher course:

Bill Ingebrigtsen wants you to speak English only.
State Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, a guy with enough Scandinavian in his surname to qualify as a character in an O.E. Rolvaag yarn about immigrant hardship on the prairie, is carrying the flag for English-only into the Minnesota Senate.

Yah. He wants us all unified with one official language. Like the good old days that never were.

Michele Bachmann's debt limit dream is a nightmare, Boehner says

Another Bachmann confrontation with House leaders.
Queen of the tea party Rep. Michele Bachmann, with an assist from former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, is ramping up her battle urging Congress to block an increase in the federal debt ceiling.

Forget it, says House Speaker John Boehner. That's a recipe for a global economic disaster, it does nothing to cut spending or help create jobs, and the House isn't going there.

"Tom" Pawlenty spoke to New Hampshire Republicans.
Tim Pawlenty has often said that name recognition is one of his main challenges when it comes to considering a White House run in 2012.

Here's one way you can tell: CSPAN carried tape of T-Paw's speech last week to a group of New Hampshire GOP big shots, and it promoted the clip with the former governor by labeling it "Tom Pawlenty Remarks."

Tucker Hibbert roars to Winter X Games snocross gold again [VIDEO]

Tucker Hibbert makes a lot of noise in Aspen.
Leaping snowmobile riders in the Winter X Games isn't likely what John Denver had in mind when he warbled "Rocky Mountain High" back in the day.

But the event, like everything else at the X-Games in Aspen, is a huge crowd pleaser, regardless of the noise and fumes. And Tucker Hibbert of Pelican Rapids is the event's reigning world champion, again, after Sunday's race.

Climb off the ledge on Star Tribune's Bachmann coverage: Comment of the day

Thumbnail image for bachmann sotu2.jpg
Bachmann makes history.
Michele Bachmann is such a prolific spouter of factually challenged nonsense that it's impossible for journalists to track it all. Nevertheless, the watchdogs at Columbia Journalism Review didn't think that challenge excused the Star Tribune from trying, and it said so in public. Climb off the ledge, commenter Adam Minter said. "The Republic will survive."More >>

Pope Benedict: Return to sender.
Twin Cities attorney Jeffrey Anderson's attempt to serve Pope Benedict and other high church officials with a sex abuse lawsuit has failed -- for now.

The Vatican more or less scrawled "return to sender" on the envelope, threw it in a Fed Ex box and said, "good luck, buddy."

Steven Hayward guest posts at Power Line after Paul Mirengoff's resignation

Steven Hayward.jpg
Steven Hayward loves monster trucks.
Paul Mirengoff figured it was okay to trash Indian spiritual beliefs and Mexicans when he complained on the Power Line blog about a Yaqui prayer delivered at the memorial service for the Tucson shooting victims.

But he also trashed his law firm's reputation among its American Indian clients. He got a very public dressing down. And he resigned from Power Line. In his place today: Steven Hayward.
