Two Wisconsin bank robbers used a toy gun for their gambit.
The second of two Wisconsin men who hatched the brilliant idea of robbing a Maplewood bank with a toy gun is going to prison for five years.

Andrew J. Larson, 24, of Eau Claire, was sentenced on Monday in federal court.

His accomplice, 26-year-old Derek Lombard of Cumberland , drew an 11-year term in October.
Both men pleaded guilty in July.

In what must have seen like a good idea at the time, they brandished the weapon in the TCF Bank at 2989 White Bear Avenue last April, ordered everyone to the ground, jumped the counter, grabbed $13,000 cash and fled in a stolen Dodge Charger.

Maplewood cops spotted them after they tried to ditch the getaway car in favor of Larson's car - one of them was trying to change clothes when a squad car pulled along side. The cops gave chase out onto I-694, where the robbers crashed and took off on foot.

Lombard was caught after wrestling with officers and then trying to carjack a van. Larson was spotted by a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter running into a Fleet Farm store, where officers caught up with him.
