The story of 12-year-old Guadalupe Galeno-Hernandez, lying paralyzed in a hospital bed since November from a drive-by gunshot wound, has been heartbreaking. Worse, Minneapolis police haven't been able to track down the shooter.

But they may be getting closer.

Casey Michelle Walters has been arrested in the case. She's uspected of being the driver of the car from which the bullet came. The 19-year-old will be charged today at noon in Hennepin County court.

Galeno-Hernandez was shot in the neck on Nov. 12 while doing nothing more than walking down the street with some friends on Chicago Avenue South. With leads in the case drying up, MPD appealed earlier this month for the public's help in tracking down the shooter, and her case was posted on the Crime Stoppers website.

Hers was the first of two violent crimes that shocked the Powderhorn Park neighborhood in November. The other was the brazen sexual assault of a mom in front of her two kids in the park itself, and another attempted sexual assault nearby, on Thanksgiving Eve.

WCCO was allowed to visit with Galeno-Hernandez at Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul.
