Chelscia English said she's learned her lesson.
Chelscia English just needed to make a quick stop at the Rainbow Foods on Arcade Street in St. Paul last October, so she left her three-year-old in her SUV--with the motor running.

Bad move.

In the few minutes she was gone, her daughter had wiggled out of her seat in the back, slid the car from "park" into "drive," and gone on a hair-raising ride through the parking lot and across a lane of traffic. The SUV came to a halt after smashing into a Cost Cutters storefront.

No one was hurt--the store was closed and the kid was pulled from the SUV unharmed. But English was arrested and charged with child endangerment.

Yesterday, Ramsey County District Judge William H. Leary sentenced the 23-year-old St. Paul woman to two years of probation and time served, and admonished her to do a better job watching her child.
