Don Shelby unretires and moves to MinnPost
Don Shelby just couldn't help himself. Two months after signing off as the iconic anchor at WCCO-TV, he's re-emerged as a writer for MinnPost, the non-profit news home for "thoughtful journalism."![]()
Don Shelby rides again -- online.
And he's using his inaugural column, replete with his promo photo from the old days, to poke a stick in the eye of his former profession. We're sure it's just meant as a little fun.
"You may have noticed that I have retired from the daily practice of television journalism," he says in the very first paragraph. "Insert your own jokes here about the oxymoronic nature of the sentence above."
Shelby says he wants another forum to report about the energy and environment stories he turned into a franchise at WCCO. Journalism without a session in the makeup chair. Gotta feed that habit.
"I could get a soapbox and stand on the corner with a tambourine and a megaphone and let my hair grow and wear a sandwich board warning of the end of the world, as we know it," he says. "Or, I could write a weekly post for MinnPost. I think that's what I'm going to do."
Guffaws from the Twitterverse ensued:
It's cool that MP has hired don Shelby. It'll be nice to hear the perspective of a white guy there for a change. (g)
@NickColeman They did take in Cyndy Brucato too. Apparently all retired TV News people are welcome - men or women.
This will do a lot to bring down the gasbag quotient at MenPost: The Don joins the ranks: http://tinyurl.com/4gnzx74
Welcome to the intrenets, Don. It's fun over here.
