| James Lileks has a beef with Blotter. |
In a New York Post article published today, Star Tribune columnist James Lileks complains about Blotter's dogged coverage of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.
The
column for the Murdoch-owned paper is an attempt by Lileks to explain Minnesota politics, and Bachmann in particular, to a skeptical nation.
Along the way, Lileks--known for his
bizarre transformation from genial City Pages columnist into xenophobic conservative apologist-- fires a shot across our bow.
Here's Lileks's not-so-subtle allusion to Blotter's recent Bachmann coverage:
A local blog, devoted entirely to collecting every atom of
Bachmannphobia on the planet went a step further, and Photoshopped her
face on some hideous quasi-human creature with deformed infants
suckling at its teats. That was a mild day for them.
While it's true City Pages has been far more aggressive in covering Bachmann's rise to national prominence than Lileks's local employer, the Star Tribune, we have to take issue with his description of
our recent post about Bachmann's strange crusade against tax breaks for breastfeeding mothers.

In bashing the first lady's idea as "nanny state" politics, Bachmann bragged that she had breastfed all five of her children without government help.
"I've given birth to five babies and I breastfed every single one,"
Bachmann said. "To think that government has to go out and buy my
breast pump.... That's the new definition of a nanny state."
To illustrate the story, we simply photoshopped
a picture of Bachmann from her recent State of the Union response onto
a picture of a woman using a breast pump. After all, this was the item at the center of the debate and Bachmann's own contention that if she could breastfeed five babies without government help, no one else needs it either.
Contrary to Lileks's florid description, the "deformed infants
suckling at its teats" is actually
a regular infant suckling at its regular mother's breast, a normal human activity that Michelle Obama is trying to encourage and that Michele Bachmann,
Sarah Palin, and other conservatives are trying to politicize.
Now that's sick!
