New Metrodome roof collapse video released

Another view of the collapse of the Metrodome roof.
New video of the collapse of the Metrodome's roof was just released by the Metrodome Sports Facilities Commission.

The footage shows snow begin to trickle through the Teflon roof, which sags at an ever-quickening pace until it covers up the entire view from the security camera.

It's an up-close look at a massive structural failure, and it comes on the same day as a recommendation to build a new roof for the Metrodome rather than trying to repair the existing one.

The footage is a bit grainy--hence MSFC chair Ted Mondale's comparison of it to The Blair Witch Project--and it's only about a minute long.

After a few seconds, the familiar hole opens up in the lower left and snow comes pouring onto the turf. In this video, we see the way the wind whips away the threads of Teflon and does additional damage after the original collapse due to the weight of the snow.

This was the first panel to give way, out on the edge of the dome. It allowed air to escape, which brought the roof down. The other two panels seen in the Fox Sports video seem to have failed after the roof was already coming down and the snow started piling up closer to the middle.
