Metrodome ranked worst NFL stadium by Yahoo

The Metrodome, looking rough.
Talk about getting kicked when you're down -- or maybe deflated: The Metrodome has been ranked as the worst stadium in the National Football League.

And to make matters worse, the cheeseheads get to gloat, because Lambeau Field took top honors in the same survey published by Yahoo Sports. Ouch.

Yahoo didn't exactly wow us with some of its subjective methodology: Stadium "architecture" was judged by whether or not a venue looked cool on television.

Watch: The Metrodome Collapse: Video from inside the stadium.

Maybe we're just overly sensitive about that category, since the collapsed dome has all the allure of a trash bag caught in a snow bank right now. But Yahoo didn't even bother giving the dome a name, just "what the hell do you people call it these days?" That stings.

It also adds ammunition to the Vikings' owners demands for a new stadium.

The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission voted earlier this month to replace the collapsed 10-acre roof rather than make repairs. And while the Vikings said they welcomed the move, they reminded the commission, and everyone else, that they want a new stadium, and will not renew their Metrodome lease when it expires at the end of the coming season.
