Ryan Stanley Hurd sentenced for stabbing Kathryn Rose Anderson 109 times

Ryan Stanley Hurd is going to prison.

Today, he found out he's going to spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted on five counts of stabbing 19-year-old Kathryn Rose Anderson 109 times and leaving the aspiring pastry chef's body by the side of the road near Owatonna.

Hurd was already under a court order to stay away from Anderson at the time of the murder in December 2009. The two, who lived in Eagan, had argued the day she died, prosecutors said, when Hurd forced Anderson out of the car, chased her down, ran into her, got out, plunged a knife into her over and over, used the car to nudge her body into a ditch, then took off.

After the attack, investigators believe Hurd tossed his knife in the Mississippi River. Police found his car soaked in blood outside of the bus depot.

Steele County Judge Casey Christian sentenced Hurd today, after a dramatic conclusion to the trial yesterday.

The Owatonna People's Press reports that as the 23-year-old murderer was led away in chains, he tried to apologize to Anderson's parents.

"I'm sorry," Hurd said.

"Too late," said her father, Gary Anderson.
