The woman shot dead Monday night in South Minneapolis has been identified as 21-year-old Stephanie Smith. The MCTC psychology student was riding in a car on Park Avenue South with an unidentified man when someone opened fire from another vehicle.

Minneapolis police were already responding to 911 calls about the gunfire when they were told two shooting victims had shown up at the Abbott Northwestern ER, about six blocks north.

Smith was pronounced dead a short time later, making her the fourth homicide victim in Minneapolis this year. The unidentified, 28-year-old man she was with was taken to HCMC with non-life-threatening wounds.
