Diane Bakdash makes court appearance in hit-and-run that killed Ben Van Handle
Diane Bakdash went before a Hennepin County judge today for the first time after her arrest for allegedly helping her son, Timothy Bakdash, avoid arrest in the hit and run death of Ben Van Handler.![]()
Police say she helped her son sell his car as fast as he could after the April 15 crash, in which Timothy told police he intentionally ran over three people after an argument at The Library Bar in Dinkytown.
Van Helder, one of the three, almost a week later of massive brain injuries, and was buried last night in Appleton, Wis., his hometown. He was due to graduate from the University of Minnesota in a few weeks.
To help Timothy unload the Mitsubishi Galant on the sly, his mothr allegedly signed the ownership title over to the buyer. Police arrested her after she went to Hennepin County jail to visit her son, who has now been charged with second degree murder in the case.
Now she's being held at the same jail on a $100,000 bond ahead of another court date in May. We'd show you her booking photo, but police haven't made it public yet.
