Jason, with animal companion.
We have a question for Waconia resident David Velick, who's just been named PETA's 2011 Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door: Are those your wife's arms wrapped so lovingly around your neck in the PETA promo photo?

Because if they're not, you may be headed for your animal companion's house. Which would be too bad, seeing as how you've just won a seven-night vacation in Maui for yourself and a friend.

Bill Pulkrabek, shown here in his mugshot after the Memorial Day domestic assault arrest
"Male beat up female," reads the incident report from yesterday's domestic assault arrest of Washington County Commissioner Bill Pulkrabek, one of Michele Bachmann's early mentors.

But the full account of the incident, obtained from police by City Pages, provides a much more disturbing look at the violent 4:20 p.m. incident on Memorial Day.

Brock Lesnar has finally gone under the knife for his chronic diverticulitis.

So simple! And it It worked out so well for the last Republican president who tried it. How come that doofus Obama never thought of such a thing?

Lake Pepin, the scene of a tragic Memorial Day weekend death
Brian Eugene Harwick jumped into Lake Pepin over the weekend to rescue his sinking black Labrador Retriever. His beloved pet survived--but Harwick drowned during the rescue attempt.

Now, it looks like an electrical current from a boat lift on the private property may be to blame for Harwick's death.

"There was a malfunction with the boat lift," says Kris Weiss, administrative assistant to the Goodhue County Sheriff. "There is going to be an autopsy performed to make sure that was the cause of death."

Let's help pick up this mess.
Taking a drive through north Minneapolis a week after the tornado, it's clear this remains a collection of neighborhoods badly in need of help. Trees are down everywhere. Whole sides of homes are missing. Tarps cover damaged roofs.

And up until now, the city has asked most folks to stay away while the streets are cleared and utilities are brought back online. Something like 1,700 truckloads of debris have been cleared.

But now, the city wants your help for North Side Volunteer Clean-Up Day on June 4. If you want to lend a hand, you need to call 311 (612-673-3000) to register and learn more details.

Miller defends his company against the BBB's claims.
Here's an enticing offer if we've ever heard one: "Watch your lead revenues explode with the most powerful lead generation system online!"

That promise comes from the homepage of Lead Net Pro, one of several companies run by Woodbury businessman Dan Miller. But according to the Better Business Bureau, Miller's company is merely deceiving customers with false hope of getting rich quick from their home computers.

"There's really no product," says Dan Hendrickson, BBB spokesman. "It just perpetuates with no one really getting anything."

Unlike Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann can answer the question of why she's running for president with one made-up word: Obamacare.

In an interview with CNN, America's Craziest Congresswoman called Obama's healthcare program "the crown jewel of socialism" and said that anyone who is running for president as a Republican has to want to be "committed to take that thing out."

Lake of the Isles runners plow through Snowmageddon.
The day the blizzard deflated the Metrodome, there were runners slogging their way around Lake of the Isles. The day the tornado ripped through north Minneapolis, there were cyclists zipping along the Greenway.

Is it any wonder we took the No. 1 spot in the American College of Sports Medicine's 2011 list of America's fittest cities? We may be the land of tater tots and the Jucy Lucy, but nothing stops us from working up a sweat, it seems.
