Amy Myers receives rape threats after challenging Michele Bachmann to debate

• Love it! Right on,,, samy is only doing it for publicity.

• Unfortunately, among today's politicians - left, right and center - I believe this student to have a viable shot. Bachmann presents her public/political persona poorly. Whether privately she is intellectually solvent isn't for me to say. However, in front of the camera, in print, and in politics (and aside from those moments which her supporters claim to be factual, inconsequential gaffes), her adeptness at shrugging reason and coherence in order to stick to her ideological guns casts her for many of us in a disquietingly ignorant way. She is hardly impressive as a thinker or a leader, and like so many others she gets by on overused junk rhetoric and an electorate that can't help but drop to their knees at the mention of flag, god and freedom. We should use politicians like Bachmann constructively as mirrors against which we can catch glimpses of ourselves.

• The Tea Party. The Republican parties brownshirts SA. For those who arent aware Hitler had a Nazi group nick named the "brownshirts". They beat-up, threatened anyone who spoke against Nazism while Hitler was fostering the Nazi party.

• An opinion is not respected in many countries. Any opinion other than what is already acceptable always gets targeted by hatred. But then any opinionated person is also loved, respected and believed in by others who understand their wisdom in saying something different. Blessings.

• YOU'D be amazed at the caliber of some 10th graders these days.  Every point-of-fact you posted is incorrect.  (That being, the school receives threatening mail, but no threatening calls.)  I'd hope if you had a daughter who received threats in ANY form, you would stand up for her.

• What a waste of time reading all this garbage.  If you read it all the father says the school gets threats, but the school says they have not received any threats but will contact police if they do.   Also what  political lefty smear campaign.   the last sentence on this article....... "So far, however, Team Bachmann has not given any indication the Congresswoman is up to the challenge" does that sound like worried parents??. Have noticed how professional the letter this little girl wrote...   for a 10th grader?? I find this a whole lot of nothing

• How dumb are you Republicans on here?    Obama has already debated the best you Republicans could throw at him.   His name was John McCain and Obama made him look like an idiot.    Do any of you with your tiny dinosaur brains remember this?    That debate was watched by  millions of people.   Bachmann loses all her debates and they are watched by thousands of people, not millions.   Bachmann won't appear on any media that won't just ask her softball questions.   She let Chris Mathews make her look stupid for crying out loud.   Think about that for a second, Chris Mathews.  When Chris Mathews can make you look stupid you will draw challenges from 10th graders.    Obama also had to debate Hillary Clinton, the 2nd best thing Democrats could offer.    Does it hurt being this dumb Republicans?      Obama spends his time planning how to kill Osama Bin Laden.   Michele Bachmann spends her time talking about how new lightbulbs will destroy our democracy.    One of these is an idiot.    Spoiler alert tea party idiots, its not the Osama killer.  

•  Um, that was vague. Which ones are saying this? What about getting names so you can make the actual bloggers look bad and can be shunned. Because if it's happened, it's appalling and needs to be called out. Kind of hard to be taken seriously when you can't back up your claim. Unless you're purposely leaving that detail out to make every tea party/conservative look bad.

• Did you read the comments that were made about this girl? Of couse not. None of the comments rise to the threat level  that would warrant investigating someone. From the article:  "Bastnagel [spokeswoman for Cherry Hill public schools] said the district's security director told Wayne Myers none of the calls contained threats. He also assured Myers the district would investigate any threats." By the way, JohnJayJones, your own comments seem a tad over-the-top.

• Looks like a typo (which most of us make at these sites where one is quickly typing a comment and moving on). By the way, shouldn't there be spaces between JohnJayJones? Just a little advice. 

• What would Bachmann gain by responding to this young woman's offer to debate? City Pages is great for finding out where your favorite band is playing, but no one takes it seriously when it comes to politics. Let's post a challenge for Obama to debate a Down's Syndrome 3rd grader. CP can fan the flames with dauly updates about how the White House continues to doge the debate offer, and Vicki, you can breathlessly crow about how you're not surprised when there isn't a peep from the White House. 

• It would be a classy move if Michele Bachmann made a statement denouncing anyone threatening to rape a minor on her behalf.

• Yes Chuck, I do think Amy would win hands down.  Have you listened to Congress?  I warn you, it will turn your stomach at how many pathetic and uninformed elected officals are holding office.  Both parties.

• Guess all the Bachmann supporters are not looking at the WWJD bracelets and pondering how Jesus would respond to this debate challenge.  Instead, the right wing tinfoil society responds with physical threats and hatred.  I'm sure that Beck and Limbaugh will be mocking the 16year old next week during their daily rants.   Grown up Bullies who fancy themselves as Christians.  Disgusting. Ignorant. And laughing all the way to the bank. And not a peep from the Bachmann camp.....why am I not surprised??  

•  Are you kidding me, Bachmann is obviously the underinformed one, all the claims that she makes and discussions she leads are only meant to be provocative and he statements are just wrong, she always gets the facts wrong! She is not even worth to have a serious debate.

• She'd probably lose, but because any half-decent pol has a massive team of people to help them with information on every possible talking point imaginable. Even Dubya was pretty articulate and well-informed in 2000; then dropped it for a new everyman persona once elected. Without 9/11, he might've been an entirely different president, since the GOP was isolationist until 9/10/2001. 

• Just a little advice. It you are going to accuse people of a being pre-schoolers it's best not to spell like one.

• I don't know what is the greater embarrassment to humanity- Michele Bachmann or the sad lot of  malignant souls that feel the need to attack and threaten a young girl simply because she reminds them of how bitter, irrelevant and silly they have become. Evangelicals like to talk a lot about speaking life and speaking death. People like Amy Meyers speak life. Bachmann and her supporters are the voice of the spiritually dead. I was hoping most of them would get raptured today to that eternal "whites only"Princess cruise they think is heaven. You know, the one with dead conservative talk radio personalities.

• I've seen some pretty vile comments about Michele Bachmann here in the City Pages 'All Bachmann, All of the Time" comments section, but CP curiously doesn't seem to show any interest in some of the threats aimed Michele's way. I'm not a big Bachmann fan, but c'mon...does anyone really think this young teen could seriously debate ANY politician (Dem or Repub) on today's substantive issues and not look underinformed and pathetic?
