Michele Bachmann compares taxes to Holocaust

Michele Bachmann: Time to invoke the corollary to Godwin's Rule.
In New Hampshire over the weekend, Michele Bachmann declared that the American tax code creates "a similar death and a similar taking away" as Hitler's extermination of six million Jews during the Holocaust.

To suggest that there is a moral equivalent between systematic genocide led by a crazed dictator and an argument among democratically elected representatives over how best to fund our government is absurd on its face.

Bachmann tried to smooth over her painful comparison by saying that "There is no analogy to that horrific action."

But then she went right ahead and made the analogy anyway:

"We are seeing eclipsed in front of our eyes a similar death and a similar taking away. It is this disenfranchisement that I think we have to answer to."

No. The Nazi Holocaust and the American tax code are not, in any sense, "a similar death and a similar taking away."

Maybe it's time to invoke the corollary to Godwin's Rule: People who fall back on Hitler analogies have automatically lost their argument--and respect.

Watch yourself Frau Bachmann, correct, as YOU are a GERMAN, and, of GERMAN ethnicity--american taxes have NOTHING to do with what YOUR PEOPLE did during WWII--but, since you are so darn proud to call yourself american and attended american schools, you have NO knowledge of history or WWII --per american schools it never happened.  You are nothing more than white american trash

To invoke the holocaust is pathetic and moronic, unnecessary, ignorant of history, histrionics and once again, batshit crazy. Like people who call Obama a nazi because yes there are elements if socialism. Well if so every major industrialized nation in the world follows 'nazi policies' you american right wing nuts are fucking morons. Grow up, read a book, relax, travel a little and stop inbreeding

I don't mind paying taxes - I just wish they were not spent bailing out banks, energy companies, and car manufactures. If anything it would be systematic to at least be able to appropriate how some of the taxes should be spent. I vote Education, Healthcare and public services.

Please check things before you post them.

Godwin's law is that as a discussion continues the probability of a reference to nazism approaches 1.

It does not contain any suggestion of winning or losing being attached to the probability.

Is there is nothing too low for this headline grabbing moron to upchuck her viewpoints onto. Do she and her T-party whiners really think that government should be a free lunch? Is it not time for American citizens to just "man-up" and pay our taxes. With the Bush tax cuts, we've had low taxes for nearly ten years now. Just how little tax does Bachmann and her t-party ilk think we should pay for government? Nobody likes to pay taxes but, good grief, we shouldn't have to cannablize all our social programs for the sake of the T-party's warped vision of the American Dream either.

Once again, Please add a DISLIKE button for comments like this. Instead of trying to assemble an intellectual commentary this person has resorted to insults to try to solve problems.

Are you kidding me? Look in the mirror before your write next time, you are not helping the Left-Wing cause that you seem to be in favor of nor do you have an appropriate rebuttal to conservative.

I think we need small 'r' republican values reinstated in our country, look them up you people who claim to be left wingers may actually realize how close your values are to what republican really means.

Please add a Dislike button for people who have no clue about this persons character or incredible resume.

You may disagree with the comparison and be insulted but I urge you to drop the emotion and look at the systematic dismantling of our public service over the years. The comparison is in fact valid, get sensational about it if you want but just be aware of the long term implications of poor public works and a downtrodden working class.

Michelle may think differently than some of you but I guarantee she will work hard for you anyway and does in fact play an important role in keeping our political system somewhat honest.

Really we should be the most concerned about revamping our countries infrastructure and grossly outdated education system. People need to wake up and start understanding how to compete with China...otherwise buy Rosetta Stone with your tax return and learn Mandarin.

No crazier than Obama who just ordered the execution of a guy wearing pajamas, sleeping and not armed? Who is this guy that we elected?

The author refers to corollary to the rule, not the rule itself.

Yes I agree Dave.Get rid of the "Bush Tax Cuts"It will raise taxes on the on THE POOR substantially.Lets say a person making $25,000 currently pays approximately $1,500 in federal taxes before exemptions. When the "Bush Tax Cuts" are removed, this same person will pay $2,250 before exemptions.Yep, those making $25,000 or less per year WILL see a 50% increase in their federal tax rate increasing from 10% under Bush, to 15% under Obama's plan. And we need to remove ALL tax loop holes. There is NO WAY a person should get more back at the end of the year than they paid in. A nation with 41% of the population acting as parasites!

And here is recent excerpt from the liberals favorite economist Paul Krugman:

“The president's proposal isn't perfect, by a long shot. While the spending controls on Medicare he proposed are exactly the right way to go, he's probably expecting too much payoff in the near term. And over the longer run, I believe we'll need modestly higher taxes on the middle class as well as the rich to pay for the kind of society we want.”

That's right middle class America.Get ready to bend over and take it for "the kind of society we want".

As far as Michele's comment:Being that we're only supplied with 1 sentence from an entire speech, I'm gonna use the typical liberal defense and say; "it was taken out of context". I guess, it's the same twisted liberal comparison. Like using Hitler and Scott Walker right?

Once again Kirk shows he is the clearest thinker in Minnesota. Obviously Republicans only care about poor people and the effect the Bush tax cuts are having on them. There is no way Kirk is being disingenuous here. Obviously we have to keep the massive Bush tax cuts for the rich because we wouldn't want to have poor people's taxes go up. Now, I know what you are thinking why not keep the tax cuts for the poor while raising the tax rate on the rich? That's the same kind of commie socialist crap Nancy Pelosi would say. Are you Nancy Pelosi? Shut up! I like it better when the voices in my head only speak in Russian.
