Drudge dogs Franken on iPhone, completely misses the point

Categories: Al Franken
Matt Drudge
Here we are, two years into Al Franken's first term as a U.S. senator, and Matt Drudge is still making jokes about Franken's former career as a comedian.

Or maybe the famously conservative news aggregator is irked that Franken, an unapologetic liberal, is dogging tech companies that have have shirked responsibilities when it comes to the privacy of their smart-phone users.

Or maybe he's still mad Franken tossed Norm Coleman out of the Senate.

Whatever bothers the guy, Drudge Report's hed linking to a Politico report on Franken's privacy hearings today is a lame retread:

NOT FUNNY: SEN. FRANKEN WANTS 'RULES OF THE ROAD' FOR IPHONES, 'BERRYS...
franken drudge note.jpg
Clever man, that Drudge. Let's deploy his statement-before-the-colon headline writing cliche to a few other Franken legislative fights, because Franken is so not funny anymore.

There's his fight with Halliburton/KBR over the gang rape of Jamie Leigh Jones.

NOT FUNNY: SEN. FRANKEN WANTS MILITARY CONTRACTORS PUNISHED WHEN EMPLOYEES RAPE OTHER EMPLOYEES

He humorlessly dogged the Comcast-NBC merger for months.

NOT FUNNY: SEN. FRANKEN WANTS COMCAST-NBC MERGER HALTED OVER ANTI-TRUST ISSUES

And what about "the free speech issue of our time?" Lighten up.

NOT FUNNY: SEN. FRANKEN WANTS NET NEUTRALITY TO GUARD AGAINST POLITICAL CENSORSHIP

It's not as if we haven't made fun of Franken ourselves (See: Imitations, Mick Jagger). But the point here is that Franken's hearings today, at which software honchos from Apple are expected to testify, are about the bedrock issue of privacy for smart-phone users. Drudge completely misses the point.

Al Franken was never funny, and now he is dangerous.

Does anyone else find it funny, that Al Franken only cares about the freedoms of us Americans being infringed upon by "Big Business"?

Just last week the Presidents administration had announced that the "Big Government" will essentially do the same thing by putting GPS in our cars.Yes, Big Brother Wants to Track and Tax You through a "vehicle millage tax". Hey Al, what are your thought on this obvious disrespectful disregard to personal liberties? For our ability to move without someone tracking us? Ya, we know Al."Big Government" = Good!"Big Business" = Bad!Yet the dick known as Al Franken, misses the hypocrisy in his actions. Also, his congressional staffers made that clear to me. Come on Al; when you fight for something you should follow through. Tell the president YOU oppose this sort of oppressive idea!

See, Al Franken is so erratic, he truly is a "funny man".

I think it says a lot about the aesthetic sensibilities and the technical competence of conservatives when The Drudge Report is viewed by anyone other than Matt Drudge's mom.

Seriously, there were better designed webpages on the local BBS in 1995.

Al Franken was not funny to begin with. Of course he isn't a carpetbagger like Tarryl Clark who has purchased a foreclosed condo in ritzy Hermantown (Duluth) to run for congress again but against a different POL. I'm curious if the carpetbagger Tarryl Clark will purchase furniture? Will the carpetbagger Clark sell her St. Cloud abode? Stay tuned for as the carpetbagger spins continues.

I know damn well that pointing out fallacies and faults in your thinking is like trying to convince a walrus to rollerskate, but I can't help but state that:

The average person has ABSOLUTELY NO say in what "Big Business" does, while they have at least the [swiftly eroding!] power to affect what "Big Government" does.

If you want America to choose the lesser of two evils, the choice is ridiculously easy.

Rather than debate the ideas of your opponent, simply make attempts to discredit them through slander.

Very Saul Alinsky of you vitajex!

So vitajex, Is that how the liberal media keeps it's readers dumb?Through the "razzle dazzle" of it's site? All flash, but no substance?

I understand it may be your duty to protect this turd, but the man currently has an awesome ability to protect our rights from both business and government intrusion. For some reason the turd only protects us from one.

And your cry that "The average person has ABSOLUTELY NO say in what Big Business does" is very concerning to me vitajex and 100% false. When was the last time "Big Business" forced you to buy their product? When was the last time a phone company ("Big Business") forced you to use them as a carrier? With "Big Business", we the consumer have choices to use that business as a supplier for our goods and services. We do not have that choice with government, unless I decide to never own and drive a car.

Nice try...

I really hope you are just an asshole troll because if you honestly believed that your response was somehow insightful, the pity will cause me to tear up.

I'm gonna turn 'conservative' on you and tell you that God loves you and I will pray for you.

Someday, you'll find peace, buddy! Keep your chin up!

Nice try yourself there, buddy. You, once again, prove your indomitable and irrepressible ignorance. You seem to confuse marketplace choice with legislative choice. When Big Business extends beyond the marketplace and begins to exert influence on government, we have a huge problem. When corporate dollars flood campaigns and lobbyists swarm the Hill with pockets flush with slush funds to sway votes towards their sole interests: profits- we have a problem. If I didn't know you better, Kirk, I'd question how someone who so vehemently decries government intrusion in personal life has no problem with corporate intrusion in government. Essentially, you are saying that it is worse to have your life "dictated" by other individuals then it is to have your life "dictated" by massive, faceless greed machines- which, don't fool yourself, is what most corporations devolve into. You get a group of people together in a financial interest and the ONLY common ground available IS profits.

But I do know you better, so I know you like to fool yourself into believing that you are rational, but you prove time and again that you are a petulant, sociopathic and angry person.

Fishsticks mom? Mother, I haven't liked those for 25+ years. Besides you live too far away for a quick visit. Mom, these are not my friends! They're more like brain dead liberal zombies in which I have great fun poking with a stick. These people are mostly college aged liberal punks whom are prone to throwing their own feces when upset. One would have to be nuts to anger them on one's own turf. Furthermore mother, Internet friends are not real friends. Being friends requires actual human contact. What facebook looser have you been talking to? Besides mom, I'm busy tonight. We, (actual people and I) are building a parade float tonight.
