Joseph Bozicevich, Minnesota soldier, guilty of murder

While Sgt. Joe Bozicevich was in Iraq in 2008, something inside him snapped

A military jury in Georgia convicted Bozicevich, 41, of two counts of premeditated murder for the 2008 shootings of Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson and Sgt. Wesley Durbin. However, because the verdict was not unanimous, Bozicevich won't face the death penalty.

Bozicevich grew up in Eagan, graduated from Cretin High School, and studied at the University of Minnesota before joining the Army. He served two tours in Iraq.

Initially, he pled not guilty to the charges. His lawyer argued that he shot the men in self-defense.

During the course of the trial, Bozicevich admitted that he shot Dawson and Durbin, but said they aimed rifles at his head. Bozicevich said the other soldiers threatened to kill him if he didn't sign off on their written reports about him.
