Ishmael Rashad Moore and Dashaunta D Mar Gomez, both 17, have been charged in the shooting death of 18-year-old Keontrell Govan.

Police found Govan with a bullet in his head last Wednesday afternoon in the alley behind the Church of St. Bridget in north Minneapolis. Medics rushed him to North Memorial Medical Center, but he died on Friday.

Moore and Gomez were both charged in a juvenile petition, each with a single count of second-degree murder. They are scheduled for a detention hearing at 1:30 p.m., where prosecutors will ask that both young men be tried as adults.

Witnesses who knew Moore and Gomez placed both teenagers first at a nearby convenience store on Dowling and Fremont, where they were throwing gang signs and Moore was seen with a 9mm pistol in his hand. Others saw Govan run into the alley, one witnessed the shooting, and others saw the pair running from the scene of the shooting, leaping over a backyard fence as they escaped.

A picture of the life of Govan, who was troubled and at times homeless, was sketched out by the Star Tribune over the weekend. Govan was friends with Anthony Titus, a 16-year-old we wrote about last year after he was shot and killed on July 4. A Facebook page, Get Well Soon Keontrell Govan, has sprung up, where friends are leaving notes.
