Leno needles Gingrich over glitter shower in Minneapolis

The Gingrich glitter shower in Minneapolis earns rave reviews.

Leno aired video of the prank, captured during a book signing for the Minnesota Family Council, then had some fun in the cutting room (clip below) by pasting in "Newt" getting up and shaking ass to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance.

And he gave Gingrich a good needling for the hypocrisy of cheating on two past wives while boosting a group that wants to prevent gays from marrying the people they love.

At a book signing in Minnesota, a gay rights activist dumped glitter all over Newt Gingrich. He wants Gingrich to stop being against gay marriage. But Newt is consistent in his position. He believes marriage is a sacred bond between a man, a woman, his mistress, and the other woman he's seeing on the side. That's all.

That glitter shower represents further evidence that "Newt is not ready for the new media, or for prime time," writes former George W. Bush advisor Mark McKinnon in The Daily Beast.

​Gingrich used to be the man Republicans could count on to deftly hurl ideological grenades from the back bench and create an insurgency. Today, he has become a campaign suicide bomber throwing shrapnel, indiscriminately wounding his own people and creating chaos.

A big tip of that hat is owed to the Minnesota Family Council, which made the whole humiliating experience possible. Evidently, they didn't spend a whole lot of time even thinking about security for the event.
