Let's help pick up this mess.
Taking a drive through north Minneapolis a week after the tornado, it's clear this remains a collection of neighborhoods badly in need of help. Trees are down everywhere. Whole sides of homes are missing. Tarps cover damaged roofs.

And up until now, the city has asked most folks to stay away while the streets are cleared and utilities are brought back online. Something like 1,700 truckloads of debris have been cleared.

But now, the city wants your help for North Side Volunteer Clean-Up Day on June 4. If you want to lend a hand, you need to call 311 (612-673-3000) to register and learn more details.

Can't be there in person? Consider making an online donation to either the North Minneapolis Recovery Fund or the Northside Home Fund--Tornado Relief.

The city now estimates that something like 3,000 structures were damaged, 1,600 of them seriously, including 274 homes.
