Minneapolis tornado assistance: Where to go

North Minneapolis is cleaning up.

Since Sunday's tornado hit north Minneapolis, people have been clamoring for a way to help the victims. Now, all that community spirit has been corralled into an organized, practical relief effort.

The City of Minneapolis has set up a Disaster Recovery Center, at 621 West 29th Ave. North, offering basic supplies, help with getting food and shelter, counseling, prescription medication replacement, and clothing vouchers.

And if you can't get there, plenty of other places want to help.

Check out the City's website for a list of places to go for help on everything from short-term kenneling of your pet to making sure that your building contractor has a license.

The City Center is open today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and over the weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Here's a complete list of the service the City's relief center offers:

Disaster Recovery Center services:
*Basic supplies, including tarps, toiletries, flashlights, batteries, diapers, etc.
*Help with food support, temporary shelter or general public assistance
*Behavioral health services and counseling
*Prescription/medication replacement assistance
*Clothing vouchers for use at an off‐site location
*Help with public schools needs and questions
*On‐site child care for people who are using the center's services
*Interpreter services are available at the center.
