Minnesota newspapers banner Osama bin Laden's death

All the news that mattered Monday morning.
Front page editors around Minnesota were doubtless biting their fingernails last night as the White House kept pushing back its official announcement that Osama bin Laden had been shot and killed in a firefight outside Islamabad, Pakistan.

But confirmation of the story reached newsrooms in time for them all to banner the news for their readers this morning. The death of the 9/11 mastermind pushed everything aside above the fold. For some, including the Star Tribune, it was the only story on the front page at all.

Here's how papers looked around the state this morning:

Face paint and racist codes to announce the kill. "Geronimo" was a great warrior and Obama decides to show his racist manner by using his name in this racist manner. WTF

Obama needs to say he is sorry for using the great war chief "Geronimo" name is such a vile manner. I thought Obama had feelings. Evidently his white side is evil.

Cover UP! Obama faked this for political reasons. Where is the body? Where is the proof of death? Why did Obama order the troops to kill Bin Laden when he was wearing jamies and didn't have a gun?

Some wouldn't have been satisfied unless he was drug back by his ears, water boarded, sliced 1000 times, roasted slowly and fed through a combine. Sad fact is, I'm probably one of them.

LIBERALS HATE SOMETHING WE ALL CELEBRATE.... FREEDOM!!!

Death 2Good

Now the birther movement has been silenced, lets start the deather movement. I want proof that Obama ordered the killing of Bin Laden! I don't believe the bin laden made it out of Bora Bora. Did Obama use evidence from the "Torture" given to KSM and others? I also want to hear the legal opinion of the Attorney General Holder - was this a valid execution?Did the President violate the constitution, our laws while doing this? Were are the liberal lawyers demanding answers?

BIN LADEN WAS A MADMAN PLAIN AND SIMPLE , YET YOU LIBERALS HAVE SYMPATHY FOR HIM, ITS THIS ATTITUDE WHY OUR CHILDREN KEEP GETTING VIOLATED BY THESE MANIACS THAT YOU LIBERAL DEFENDENTS AND JUDGES KEEP LETTING OUT, HOW ABOUT EVERYTIME THIS HAPPENS ONE OF YOU LIBS GIVES HIS OR HER LIFE FOR THAT VICTIM, SOUNDS GOOD TO ME, ITS ONLY FAIR...

whoever said anything about sympathy? why do so many people go on the attack without actually hearing what the other person said? The original poster simply expressed a certain uneasiness about how quickly and gleefully large crowds of Americans are celebrating a killing, regardless of who was killed. If we claim to be more civilized than violent fundamentalists--and I like to believe we are--then we shouldn't be so quick to celebrate an execution as though our team just won the world series. Now turn your caps lock off and wipe the spittle from your monitor.

YOU ARE A COMMIE, AND HOW COULD YOU FEEL UNEASY ABOUT THIS, YOU LIBERALS ARE SICK, THATS WHY YOUR LIB DEFENDERS AND JUDGES KEEP LETTING THESE SICK FUCKERS BACK ON THE STREETS, I USE CAP LOCKS CAUSE U LIBS HATE IT... MOVE TO FRANCE..

EXACTLY!

It's like saying:

"We should go on a kind of crusade- a 'jihad' if you will- against all of those whom we deem to be infidels who declare jihad on all of those people who they deem to be infidels. It's okay, because WE are right..."

Compare the pictures of:these crowds of Americans waving American flags and dancing and cheering-with-crowds of Arabs burning American flags and dancing and cheering.

The similarity is disconcerting. And to not be able to recognize this is a bad sign. This is NOT patriotism, this is nationalism. And as such, it should worry any sane, rational globally-conscious person.

I can't help but feel slightly queasy when I see a throng of people gleefully celebrating the fact that somewhere, someone got a bullet in the head. This is not a great feat that we have accomplished, but rather a necessary evil, if anything. It's a time for solemn remembrance and introspection, not face paint and dancing in the streets.

This event also solidifies my theory that unironically chanting 'USA! USA!' is pretty much never cool.

What else is new from trib readers. Queasy! What a passivist dweeb.

No to mention the fact that the commenter thinks this is the Star Tribune website...

I think it has more to do with the behavior of crowds than with the behavior of individuals. When I walked into my apartment building's entryway and saw the headline on the Strib this morning, I had a moment of quiet reflection, but I can't say that I wouldn't be whooping it up like a drunken patriot if I happened to be in a crowd, such as the crowd at the extra-innings Phillies game or in front of the White House. Seriously, man, crowds are scary.
