Minnesota senate votes to put anti-gay amendment on the ballot

The majority of these guys, today, are totally the worst.
You can't marry your gay partner in Minnesota. It's illegal. But for a majority of Minnesota lawmakers, it's not illegal enough.

State Republicans want gay marriage to be unconstitutional, and today the Senate voted to put that constitutional amendment before voters in next year's election.

The measure still has to pass the House, where a Republican majority will almost certainly move it forward. But as a constitutional referendum, it doesn't require the Governor's approval.

So we can look forward to an extra-special election season next year: not only will the ordinary electoral ridiculosity be dialed up to 11 by a presidential election glutted for the first time with more or less completely unrestrained corporate money; we're also going to get months and months of fevered debate over whether the discriminatory dungeon we've thrown gay Minnesotans into is dark and dank enough.

As Sen. Scott Dibble, the only openly gay member of the senate, said today, that's not exactly the kind of public conversation you want to inflict on gay youth in a state where bullying and isolation are already driving many of them to kill themselves.

That's like saying it's not racist to oppose interracial marriage. Let me guess some of your best friends are gay, right? Sure they are. If you truly "could care less about someones sexual orientation" then why does this even matter to you? How on this earth could two people of the same sex getting married have ANY effect on you unless you are one of those people? If you feel that marriage should only be between a man and a woman great, don't get married to someone of your same sex. You have to realize however your opinions and beliefs have little in common with mine and just as you would not like me to impose my viewpoints on you, I should not, and will not, allow you to impose yours on me. And by the way, allowing someone else the right to do something that has no impact on your selfish little world is NOT imposing something on you. This could only be an imposition if your were required to get a same sex marriage.

Sorry for the toll bait.

it's hard believing in freedom. You have to give Complete MORONS the same right to express their opinions. Expressing an opinion is great but taking away someones freedom is unconstitutional!

This is crazy! Freedom means you can be free to believe gays should not marry but Freedom does not give you the right to take away another persons freedom to get married it they are gay and want to! It is not someones right to impose their beliefs on another. FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM! WE ALL HAVE A RIGHT TO MARRY WHOMEVER WE WISH!

IT's NOT anti gay!!!!! Stop with the left propaganda. Just because there is a belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman DOES NOT mean someone is ANTI GAY!! I could care less about someones sexual orientation. However, I do feel that marriage should only be between man and woman. I'M NOT ANTI GAY nor do I believe the majority of people who believe the same way are. Stop it city pages. Shame on you for that headline.

Lots of exclamation marks and capitalized letters is appropriate from a person such as yourself. Nigelpeeps, you disgust me.

Why should it only be between a man and a woman, if not to afford opposite-sex couples with something that same-sex couples can't have?

Nigelpeeps, you can be against religious marriage between people of the same sex, because that's your right as a member of that faith. Being against civil marriage, however, *is* anti-gay. Civil marriage is a right sanctioned by the government; by denying gay people the right to be married, you place them in a class lower than yourself.
