Gretchen Hoffman throws the baby out with the bathwater.
After using Twitter to twist the words of DFL state Sen. Barb Goodwin beyond their meaning, and getting spanked by the Senate Ethics Committee as a result, GOP Sen. Gretchen Hoffman has now apologized.

"I am certainly sorry for my own misunderstanding of what you said and how I subsequently handled it," Hoffman says in an official letter.

And in what looks like a shot at a fresh start with the whole social media thing, she has also wiped out her old Twitter account, @gretchenmh, offending tweet and all.

She didn't need to do that. The ethics committee only required her to remove the single tweet. But Hoffman evidently figured she'd throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Here's a screenshot of offending tweet, in which she accuses Goodwin of calling mentally ill people "imbeciles and idiots," in case you missed it.

Videotape of the debate shows that's not what Goodwin said at all. Quite the opposite: She was arguing that mentally ill folks not be treated like idiots and imbeciles.

Either Hoffman wasn't paying attention, or she was just engaging in a little bit of political hackery. Either way, she came out with egg on her face.

Maybe she'll be more careful with her new Twitter account, @Gretchenmh1, which so far only provides a link to the ethics committee's resolution -- as it required in its ruling.

This is what happens when you elect clueless proles.

She hopes that her constituents are as dumb as she is and forgets this so that they reelect her.

A good way to get a scope of "how smart" or "how educated" people of a certain area are; use the U.S. Census.Minneapolis and Saint Paul seem to be at the top of the list of "dumb".  And that was looking at the 2000 census. I wonder if that's why they needed to gobble up part of the suburbs into Minneapolis and St. Paul with the redistricting.  More "smart" people got the F**k out.

From 2000 census- (edit = sorry this is actually the 2009 data) the fresh stuffEDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT for Population 25 years and over (state wide)Less than 9th grade  =  158,8589th to 12th grade, no diploma  = 222,487

In Minneapolis -Only 87.7%had a high school diploma of equivalent

in Saint Paul - Only 87.4% had a high school diploma of equivalent

In Coon Rapids - 91.8% had a high school diploma of equivalent

In White Bear Lake-94.1% had a high school diploma of equivalent

Wadena where Gretchen represents-90.3% had a high school diploma of equivalent

Funny, the sheer numbers show the MAJORITY OF DUMB, falls in the heart of liberalville. Can liberalism and Democrat voting preferences be directly attributed to poorly educated people.  Sure looks that way!

really? you're going to use a census that is 11 years old and not at all apples to apples of towns with tiny populations to cities with huge populations and urban areas? you really are a jerk!

Trying to comprehend any of what Kirk writes is futile; you may as well go Burroughs on a Glenn Beck transcript, and try to find meaning in the random, cut-up phrases.

Alternately, think of Kirk as a pet primate, randomly banging on the keys and trying to reproduce all of the works of Rush Limbaugh. He's getting dangerously close...

Or if you want to believe he's responding to key phrases, think of him as a right-wing ELIZA. (Too obscure for non-computer nerds?)

Sorry, I took another look at the data and this WAS the 2009 data. What does population have to do with raw percentages?Do we not spend 50-100 percent more in Minneapolis and Saint Paul per pupal for K-12 education than out state?

The facts show, person for person, Minneapolis and Saint Paul is the heart of ignorance in Minnesota!  90%+ of the under educated is right here!Of course Brooklyn Center is less educated than both. (82.8%)  That's below national average of 84.6%.I wonder what is the problem is?  The areas with the highest uneducated people, spend the most money per pupal on education within their schools.  What's with the graduation rate?  Quit school to work on the family farm? What gives?Liberals claim, money fixes all right?
