• There is more to this story than meets the eye.  I work security for the Twins (I am not the guy who confronted the two women)  My son is gay, has a lifelong partner, an adopted baby, and I strongly support gay rights.  I will be voting no on the stupid ammendment.  Having said all that, here is the other side of the story:  fans complained to the security gaurd about the excessive kissing, fondling, etc. and were offended by it.  The security gaurd was referring to the Twins Fan Code Of Conduct and made the stupid mistake of referring to the "10 commandments" because he did not remember what the code was called.  If a man and a women were involved in excessive kissing and fondling to the point of people around them complaining, it is our job to ask them to stop or leave the stadium.  While I do not condone his choice of words, and admit he may be homophobic, I do not think that he responded to one "peck on the cheek" as is being presented by the two women involved.  Let's all learn from this and move on.  Vote no on the ammendment!!!

• Keep in mind there is no video of the event nor input from others who saw it, just their word that it was a "quick kiss".  As far as we know it could have been a half-minute tongue-battle that the old guard would have commented on to any couple (though I doubt it was).  His biblical justification is still in the wrong, but aside from that I don't think we can really call for more or less punishment from what there is of evidence of the offense.

• If this was a casual atendee at the game making the comment, you'd have a point, but as this was an employee of target, you have no point.  The guard is seeing no legal repercussions, so no limitations of his freedom of speech, but he is being repremanded by his employeer who he represents.  Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.  If your workplace doesn't like you saying things on their clock or as their representative, they are fully in their rights to fire you without violating your "freedom of speech".

• While this specific situation, where the guard made it clear their orientation was the issue, is fine for firing, I don't like the concept of putting a "no-tolerance" rule into effect for similar situations. I could easily see it being applied to a guard who would tell couples of any gender or orientation to "get a room" being instantly fired when he makes the mistake of saying it to a same-sex couple.  Sure, fire this guy, but this ought to be treated on a case-by-case basis and there is no need for new "no-tolerance" rules to be put into place.

• Brad, I hear what you are saying, but you have some terrible people doing some pretty terrible things in the name of "christianity."  You seem to have it together and are an accepting and understanding Christian, but there are people who are going to the funerals of soliders with signs that say god hates homosexuals (usually in more graphic terms) there are also cases of people bombing abortion clinics and other activities which are albeit extreme examples of hate against something christians oppose.  I cannot remember any instances of a group of gay people or pro-choice people attacking a church because their beliefs are different than what Christianity preaches.  While I agree everyone is entitled to their beliefs the reason some of your fellow Christians are often being told to be more accepting and tolerant is because they have taken such extreme and hateful measures in the past.

• I will try not to judge you for reading the Bible as a factual, historical document rather than a parable-driven guide but here: "We dont have to go to the Tabernacal anymore and sacrifice a sheep like what was done in the old testament." You do know which Testament Leviticus is in right? If you quote it, shouldn't you be following ALL of your God's old law? I don't know what a lamb cost 2000 years ago, but I know they ain't cheap now...you'll be ostracized AND broke.

• In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with two people - any two people - exchanging a quick kiss in public. That should be obvious to all but the religious zealots who feel they can interpret scripture and impose their interpretations on others. That being said, what's the big deal here? The security guard has been reprimanded. Does anyone think that this is the kind of publicity that the Twins would like to have? I'll bet the security guard or any other venue or Twins employee won't be able to repeat this behavior and keep their job. I think it is reasonable for the women involved to be angry, and they deserve an apology and free tickets to another game. But why make a federal (or state) case  out of it? The Human Rights Commission? Give me a break. The women have already received national publicity that will likely reverberate throughout Major League Baseball and other venues where patrons should be treated as valued customers. I think it is reasonable for the guard involved to be reprimanded, but not fired. He needs to not repeat his offensive behavior. His personal opinions are his own business, and he needs to learn that it is not appropriate to impose his own moral beliefs on others in his workplace, or anywhere else for that matter. The women can reasonably expect that the national publicity generated by this incident will influence the behavior of others. But changing the way people think about issues such as this is probably a stretch. Opinions are harder to change than behavior. Hopefully this incident will be one of many that will gradually add up in the public consciousness, and opinions will eventually change. Since the women were only offended, but not actually harmed, that is the best they should hope for... along with some free tickets and beer.

Times are different, and since the death of Christ, that has made it easier to go right to Jesus, and talk to him and ask him for forgiveness, what may have been done in Biblical times (earlier times) are not necessarily what is done today, thats not from me, that comes from biblical scholars who have studied  things like that. Jesus died for our sins so that we could go right to him, have a relationship with him, as him for forgiveness and help. • Guy, I am glad that you have had education with this, and I am also happy that you have applied Faith to other areas of your life. I know, most people have a hard time having faith in something that cannot be seen or touched, that is why in this case faith is so important. You are right in saying that faith is not enough, you also have to believe that Christ came down from heaven as a human being, died on the cross for our sins, rose 3 days later and assended into heaven and all we have to do is to pray to Christ, ask him to forgive us our sins, come into our lives, and accept us into heaven. Other than that, I believe that you should live a christian life according to what God wants us to live. • I understand what you are saying, I just have to say that if one person has those feelings in early human times that negatively impacted the tribe, everyone has those feelings and thoughts, its just that most people know not to act on them because of their "gut" instinct, and the fact that it would have had a negative outcome, so I think we can agree to disagree with that fact a little. But I have to believe that there is something greater for us than average life expectancy of 78 years, then I die, go blank and thats it. What was the greater purpose of me being here, working for 40 years, going to Disney and just dying then? I just cannot believe that that was it, seems so useless. BUT, if I know in my heart that this 78 years is just a stepping stone to the next step in life, then religon make perfect sense, and Christianity is the way to believe. Does that make sense???

Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion and from the control of a religion that you don't belong to.

• Guy, if I didnt know you better than these posts, I would say that you were like me, a Christian, because you do know parts of your Bible!!! I appreciate your comments, and by the same means you too seem like a terrific person. I cannot agree with you more with what you said. There are "radicals" on the religious side just like any other side, and they are people who do not represent christianity at all in my eyes. Yes, the Bible does state things like that, one verse is as follows: Matthew 5:44  "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you"; I think that was probably one of what you were talking about. I do NOT approve of harming others or violence in the name of God, because that is NOT what Christ wants from us, he wants to love everyone as tho they are our brother and sister. I am not part of nor would I be part of the violet sort of religon. That is not religon, that tends to be swayed as cult or radical islam, things like that. I truly wish that we could get along better that what we already are, and i wish that people who dont believe would just allow the fact that this country was built on religious principles and by believers in Christ, and that religon and Christ will come up in legal matters, and in school, and at the courthouse, because that is our country. if it werent for the freedom to religon, this country woundnt have been formed. • Humans are social animals, and we've evolved over millions of years, not only physically but behaviorally as well. When early humans behaved in a way that negatively impacted the tribe, they were dealt with harshly, and their genes were not passed on successfully. This is where those "feelings" of "right and wrong" in your "soul" come from. It's why murdering a stranger seems repulsive and wrong but killing an assailant to protect your children is an innate response and feels right. I know that Evolutionary Psychology has its faults (it's almost a religion itself), but you have to admit it makes a great deal more sense than a mythology that was created before there was any type of brain science.

• Francis, I am not using religion as an excuse, religon was one of the topics here which is why I am bringing it up. Religon is not "my excuse" it is the way I choose to follow like you said. Just like these 2 girls are choosing their path, same thing, is their being gay their excuse?? If I am using excuses like you state then they must be using being gay for theirs. Doesnt make sense that i am using it as an excuse, I am simply using it as the other side of the story from that of the topic at hand, so please dont state that I am using religon as an excuse.

• Thanks for the response. I do hear that alot. I am glad that you said that because yes, religon is based alot from "faith". That is a hard thing for people to have in these days with everything that we have going on, but the Bible in and of itself was written by God through the hand of man, so while you are completely correct with that, it still was written physically by man and their inspiration was that God was having them write what he wanted them to write. I heard that Steven Hawking recently stated and proved that God was fiction, and that he just proved through science that God didnt exist. I have just chosen to believe that such an intricate planet and life that we have here was created by a more powerful source than a huge ball of gases just randomly exploding in space to make what you see. I have faith that my "gut" instinct, that the "feeling" in my heart and mind that I am doing something wrong is just not that I know what is right and wrong, but that it is the Lord helping me and guiding me throughout my day, and that the Bible is my owners manual for life. If we are the result of exploding gases then who really cares about right and wrong, why are there laws to help guide us, and why do we feel bad when we have done something wrong. That feeling is the soul which is from God which will one day return to God for judgement. You have to admit that some of what I am saying makes some sense.

• Brad, you seem like a nice guy, and I believe that you don't actually hate gays. But you have to realize that the same anti-gay attitudes that you are professing have caused others to physically harm and even murder gay people or verbally harass gays to such a degree that they resort to suicide. That doesn't seem so Christian. You'd be hard-pressed to find many accounts of gays returning the violence that has been inflicted upon them. I think there's a story you might know about a guy who taught people to always turn the other cheek and love thine enemy. Like I said, you seem like a kind and genuine person, but you are part of a wider ignorance that is keeping our society from progressing toward a more peaceful future.
