Michele Bachmann calls Sarah Palin a bad mother

Thumbnail image for bachmann palin together waving.jpg
Bachmann opens a new front in the mommy wars.
Remember when Sarah Palin dragged her family into the 2008 presidential election, presented her pregnant, unwed teenage daughter Bristol as the poster child for Christian values, and then got all steamed with the media for daring to wonder just what in the hell she was doing?

Imagine what she's thinking now. Because now, fellow conservative Michele Bachmann is taking a none-too-subtle swipe at Palin's mothering instincts.

There's a video making the rounds from last weekend's Faith and Freedom Conference where Bachmann is caught on tape telling Ralph Reed that a good Christian woman waits until all her kids are grown up and out of the house before trying to grab the big brass ring.

"We've raised a lot of children, five biological children, 23 foster kids," Bachmann says. "This fall our youngest two will go off to college, so we're coming to the conclusion now of 29 years of parenting, and I think that's one life lesson that you learn. That sometimes you have patience and wait to do certain things in your life. "

"There's a time and a season for everything," Reed says.

"There's a time and a season for everything, that's right," Bachmann replies. [Hat tip: Avidor]

Quick, name a Republican woman who may run for the White House, with five kids younger than 20, who doesn't have 29 years of parenting under her belt. Hint: It's the woman who Bachmann's campaign guru Ed Rollins calls a lightweight quitter, and NOT "the intelligent woman who's every bit as attractive."

Even if Bachman was talking about herself, she talked selectively.  Bachman worked as an attorney for the IRS until her fourth child was born, and only then did she devote full time to parenting.  And how good of a foster mother could she have been, if she did not learn to be empathic and supportive in her political support of impoverished children?

You'd have to make a REALLY big stretch to take Michele's words as critique against Sarah. And she certainly didn't say what the headline says. Michele and Sarah genuinely like and respect each other. This is just another smear job and attempt to drive a stake between these to women, like when Politico falsely reported during Sarah's bus tour that she had said that it was her and not Michele that could take credit for the Tea Party movment - something they ended up having to apologize for.

Bachmann is as dumb as Sarah she is just not vindictive as Sarah. Romney is the only sensible GOP candidate.

I'm amused that it took Political Theater to get people to care about politics. Waybackwhen politics attracted as little attention as NASA TV.

I'm always amazed at the number of righties that actually read and post on CP. You guys know this is a liberal rag right?  why do you bother? Are you going to "convert" some of the people who read this because they like it? Or are you just bitter people, and always looking for a fight?

And yeah, even though I absolutely abhor Bachmann, this is shit journalism.

hey Hart, where is the big story on the dead wolf at the zoo?  I can't find it anywhere... I am sure it is still coming but for now you will stick with mediocre storys that actually pay your rent.  Amazing.  I look forward to everyone and the candle light service over a dead wolf.  Should be fun.  Reminds me of a pink and Black Sarah.

If the liberal media really thought Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin were inept and crazy, they wouldn't spend much time on them.  Would would be the point?  Unless they are cruel people, and they seek to fulfill some sort of sick enjoyment from picking on "crazy" people.   The fact is, they spend a disproportionate amount of time on these Republican candidates.  Why?  Well, I know why.1.  they are deathly afraid of these two, knowing either of them could beat their candidate, thus having to smear their persons.  Notice how the focus is never on what they have done, but instead focused on what they have said.  Aren't actions worth a thousand words?2.  They're unable to boast about anything their candidate has done, thus having to detour attention away from their candidate and focus on the enemy.

It's simple people!  This is all detailed in Saul Alinsky's book - "Rules for Radicals"

RULE 5:  "Ridicule is man's mostpotent weapon."

RULE 6:  "A good tactic is oneyour people enjoy."  (like picking on the "crazy", thus making you all cruel sick fucks)

RULE 8:  "Keep the pressure on.Never let up."(is there a week that CP doesn't do a hit piece on Michele?)

RULE 9:   "The threat is usuallymore terrifying than the thing itself."(creating in its owncollective mind the direst of conclusions. The possibilities can easily poisonthe mind and result in demoralization.)

RULE 12:   Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and notinstitutions; people hurt faster than institutions.  This is cruel, but veryeffective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.

Awe, do I have your number or what?

Hey Von Douchebag, Michele would never say that about Sarah.   and Von Douchey, "poster child for Christian values"?  You say this cuz you have no values, just "rules"...

Bachmann just destroyed her campaign with the hiring of Rollins....

Too bad, so sad.

It will take more than summer school to bring these two up to par. Not only are they NOT intelligent, but Palin and Bachmann distort the truth, create and perpetuate lies, and don't know their history!

Brhard

Both Palin and Bachmann give women a bad name. With the highly successful, intelligentwomen leaders in politics today, both of those two contribute nothing , and never will unless they attend summer school.

Nice try from Denburg, but Bachmann did not mention Palin. Bachmann was talking about herself. Obama groupies like Denburg are so desperately afraid of Bachmann they not only distort but, as here, fabricate Bachmann's attacks, quotes and ideas. This "new front" is 1)  not a front in a war; 2) occured before Rollins' remarks. So it is neither new nor a front.

"how good of a foster mother could she have been, if she did not learn to be empathic and supportive in her political support of impoverished children?"

So if you support something, you must support government doing it.  If you oppose government doing it, you must oppose it in itself.

But then leftists rush to claim that they're not opposed to prayer and the Bible, even if they favor banning prayer in public-sector settings.  They claim they don't personally favor burning the flag and aborting babies, even if they don't support a government ban on those things.  In such cases, we're told we must understand there's a major distinction between government and private action, and a separation of personal values and conduct and what is appropriate and effective for government to do.

Wondering if all you lefties have a clue that Obama has put us into a fourth war - Yemen this week! Where are all the anti-war protestor's. With 9% unemployment and time on our hands some of us want you to realize what the hell is really going on! When the food is off the grocery shelfs this year and you are starving, it is OBAMA and the democrats fault.Don't sing any copyrighted songs because our senator Klobuchar has created a bill to send you to Jail! Do you people even understand that our rights are gone! Klobuchar and Obama are trying to create a socialist country BUT they will not suceed! The Gov Dayton and the Dems want chaos in the streets this summer. Unforunately the blood in the street and the starving children will be Mark Daytons's and Amy Klobuchar's fault.

Every rule you just outlined could be applied to the far right's attack on Obama. Kirk, do you really think either of them stand a chance at unseating him? The right needs to reach out to the people in the middle, who are NOT religious nuts, who DO believe in evolution, and who DON'T hate gays, Muslims, and every other group that deviates from their bigoted view of what America should be.

I'd be deathly afraid if either of them had a snowball's chance in hell of assuming higher office, but neither do. Palin's essentially touring primary states to build her brand and Bachmann doesn't have a big enough following to break into the major leagues.

"2.  They're unable to boast about anything their candidate has done, thus having to detour attention away from their candidate and focus on the enemy."

Or it could be that the media is a simple-minded beast that runs towards anything that makes an attractive noise. I always prefer to assume simplicity rather than conspiracy; keeps the world manageable.

actually the media harps on Palin, Bachmann & folks like Weiner because it draws viewers.   The media is a business.  Viewers= $$$$$  it is nothing more and nothing less than that.

The blood and starving children in Iraq certainly isn't Obama's or her fault. Both parties are corrupt and serve the rich. I would love it if Obama were really steering us toward "socialism" (in the Scandinavian sense) but he's not.

Oh I hope the democraps nominates him again, god that is going to be great. Please oh please nominate Obama again! 9% unemployment (14% if the carter unemployment math is used), 44,000,000 on food stamps, worst jobs recovery since the depression, 2nd dip in housing, Boeing being told they can't add 1,000 in carolina, the coal industry being told they will pay a fortune to build anymore coal producing electric plants, the big foot of the federal government on small business, small banks FDIC increasing 5 fold for the theft by goldman sacks, GE not paying taxes because of the crony capitalism of Obama. OMG please dems renominate Obama!

Yes I do.  That is where the lefts fascination with MB/SP comes from.  MB/SP generate big money and  inspire big patriotism.  They inspire people to look into U.S. history and the Constitution.  And yes, they will make it extremely difficult for any democrat to run against them.    So destroy them they must!!!

Hey Roe, don't Muslims hate Gays?  My Muslim ex wife, sure thought Allah would punish the gays.  Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies there are any gay Iranians.  Why would that be?  They will chop their heads off perhaps? And "bigoted view of what America should be"  That's the left for ya.Who opposed the civil rights movement? (the left)Who feels everyone need to be separated out by color of skin, gender, race, etc. (the left)Hell everyone needs a special grant, loan, scholarship, personal counsel, etc. except the WHITE MALE.   That would be racist if the WHITE MAN had ANYTHING exclusive right? Who was it that institutionalized  them "racist" and "bigoted" programs like affirmative action?  Oh ya, the Left.  They kinda have had a monopoly on racism for, well, since the beginning.Planed Parenthood killed more blacks than the KKK ever did.  Bill Clinton, just last year say: Robert Bird (democrat) "needed to join the KKK to get into political power".And, be more moderate?  HA HA, you actually think they will fall for that again? The Right was told they needed to "reach out",  and "become more moderate" before.  As a result, the right had the election defeats of 2006 and 2008.  The right didn't stand firm on anything back then, and they lost.  America wants leaders, who stand for something.  Flip flops, will always be stepped on.

And yes, I have been telling the Right, they NEED to use to Left's tactics against them.Saul Alinsky was a had core leftist, and Hillary Clinton started her political career around him.

And religious nuts? The lefts view, on implementing socialism, defense of abortion, and defending government employees at any cost, is their religion.  And yes, they form mobs for the cause, and appear quite nuts.

One more thing on this -- the only reason we elected Obama is because he was such a polar opposite from the man who ran our country into the ground for eight years before him. If McCain or Gore had been president instead of Bush, there would be no Obama.

Hasn't the new Republican majority solved all of these problems already?

Remember when these same wingnuts told us that Obama was going to be a ruthless dictator? Now he's the exact opposite. He "leads from behind", he's incompetent, and a moron, etc.

Roe Pressley
Roe Pressley

First, thanks for not resorting to childish name calling. I've seen your posts on here and overall you're fairly civil in your discourse and I appreciate that from people on both sides.

Equating the democrats with the left is just as wrong as equating the republicans with the right, since both parties have deviated from the principles that defined them during the mid-20th century (which is when many of the more poignant points you made above occurred).

Also, I will never defend Islam because I think all organized religions suck, and yes, I recognize that fundamentalist Muslims are generally worse than fundamentalist Christians if only because they live in countries where they are allowed -- nay, encouraged -- to enforce sharia by killing gays, mutilating clitorises, etc. So don't think I'm playing favorites there.

The problem with MB/SP is that they represent and appeal (market) to the part of the right that moderates and reasonable lefties like myself have absolutely every reason to ridicule. They do not believe in evolution and would like to see it wiped out of public education; they do not believe in nor respect the separation of church and state; they do not know and would like to revise significant parts of American history (yeah, some libs are guilty of this, too); they appeal to the willfully ignorant, paranoid, and bigoted segments of America with very thinly veiled messages that appeal to their base instincts (again, some libs do it too).

They are not smart and are not good leaders. But I digress. The main reason neither of them will unseat Obama is, sadly, because they are women. Society is still far more sexist than it is racist.

As for bigoted and racist/reverse-racist policies, both ideologies are wrong in their approach. The left thinks because the white Christians have dominated America from the beginning that every single minority you can devise needs help from the taxpayer because they're incapable of rising above the bigotry that dominates American life. This creates a self-perpetuating welfare state and a sense of entitlement to those who don't deserve it.

The right on the other hand likes to pretend these problems no longer exist at all and therefor no longer need the government's attention -- the whole "If we can elect a black Muslim than we must be over the whole race thing." Nothing I hate more than hearing people refer to a "post-racial America." It's idiocy. Racism and other bigotries will always exist, but it will always be the job of the government to try to keep them in check.

Both sides take it too far.
