Michele Bachmann calls Mitt Romney insufficiently pure on abortion

Bachmann loves activist judges.
Michele Bachmann says she's a constitutional conservative who doesn't want judges legislating from the bench. But she doesn't mean it.

If she's elected president, she's now promising she will appoint only judges who will use their positions to fight abortion rights. She's signed a pledge that says so.

This kind of contradiction shouldn't surprise anyone.

In last week's GOP presidential debate, Bachmann supported states' rights when it comes to gay marriage, and almost in the same breath supported a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

Now she's trying to attack Mitt Romney for being an insufficiently pure Republican because he won't sign the same anti-abortion rights pledge that she signed.

Romney's a flip-flopper on this matter; he was an abortion rights supporter as governor of Massachusetts, but changed sides when he ran for president in 2008.

So Bachmann figures she'll try to score points against the GOP front-runner by questioning his social conservative bona fides.

"It is distressing that Governor Romney refuses to sign the SBA Pledge, even while claiming to be pro-life. The excuses for not signing clearly continue the doubts about his leadership and commitment to ending the practice of abortion."

Romney's team is happy to return fire. He's "firmly pro-life," the campaign says, adding:

"Mitt Romney will appoint judges who will faithfully interpret the constitution and not legislate from the bench."

Tim Pawlenty signed the anti-abortion rights pledge, too. Maybe we'll hear from him via Twitter, his preferred method of confronting Romney.

Once again I cover the issues that are important to the American people.  When Tea Party Republicans were swept into office last election we promised to focus on the issues that the American people needed us to focus on.   Today I was talking to all these Americans at the unemployment office and honestly all they wanted to talk about was abortion.   This is the number one issue in all of America!!!!!!!   End the holobabycaust that Obama has caused single handed.
