Bradlee Dean sues Rachel Maddow

Smith wants more than $50 million from the MSNBC host.
Punk rock preacher Bradley Dean Smith will announce plans later this morning to sue MSNBC host Rachel Maddow for more than $50 million.

According to Smith, better known as Bradlee Dean, Maddow and other unnamed news outlets defamed him by tweaking comments made on his radio show about Christians taking a lax stance toward homosexuals.

In an interview with City Pages earlier this month, Smith talked in great detail about his belief that the media has unfairly targeted him.

"It's hurtful crap people say," Smith said of the media. "And they say, well, you're a public person. But then you think about Jesus Christ up on the cross being crucified, and what was he crucified for? He was crucified for their sins. That's a hard lesson to learn, man."

UPDATE: Video of the Bradlee Dean press conference

The offensive quote in question is taken from a May 15 broadcast of Smith's radio show, originally reported by Dump Bachmann:

"Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America... and this just shows you they themselves are upholding the law that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian god, but they seem to be more moral than the American Christians do because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination..."

Maddow later quoted a similar excerpt on her show during a segment about Tom Emmer, who has donated to Smith's ministry:

Smith argues that the quote was taken out of context, and he was not actually calling for the execution of homosexuals.

The motive for skewing his words, according to Smith's ministry, traces all the way back to Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

"The left wing media's effort to defame Dean is an obvious way to try to harm Bachmann's presidential prospects, who they fear and despise," reads a statement from the ministry.

Smith will release more details on the suit at a press conference at the New York Press Clubs, schedule to start at 11 a.m. Eastern this morning.

Rachel these crazies keep inciting the other crazies like themselves. Filled with intolerance, hate, mean spiritedness what has happened to the practice what they preach, called  Christian Charity. Guess that must be in another book, they have not read yet.

You seem to need to read our book. Maybe you were hoping that Bradlee Dean would misinterpret the word like so many other christians and just complacently allow the left wing media to continue to propagate their agenda to the masses. Because we do not agree with certain lifestyles does not mean we hate anyone. If you really wanted to know the truth you would talk to a real christian and understand we can disagree with you and still love you.

The mindless seem to be filling our airwaves these days. Welcome Bradlee to the nut job community. By the way is it really left leaning media which we seem to have little of or simple reality these folks do not seem to have one oirginal thought for themselves. All they seem to be able to do is be hateful, disrespectful,  manipulative, shallow but most of all intolerantand lacking of real gray matter.

Annie, you do a terrible disservice to punk rock by even mentioning punk in the same article as this piece of shit, let alone having it be the first word in the article.

Wrong! We are not victims! We are merely standing up for our rights! Why has no liberals come out and said that threatening Bradlee Dean's home and family is wrong? Is it ok for these people to call for harm to him and his family oh I guess it's all one sided with you liberals isn't it?

When the court throws out the lawsuit, I hope they make Bradleeeeee pay all lawyers fees. Might make that criminal go bankrupt.

Shame on the lamestream media for their crucifixion of Bradlee Dean.  This man is exactly like Jesus.   He didn't say people should execute gay people but instead that those that were executing gay people were better than Americans.   Huge difference lamestream media.  Did any of you liberals even watch the video up above?   Rachael Maddow didn't even attempt to give Bradlee Dean's side of things.    Look how dedicated to facts Bradlee Dean is.    I had no idea every single gay person is a molester that has victimized 117 people on average.  Where else are you going to hear such an astounding fact like that?   Certainly not on the Rachael Maddow show.    Rachael Maddow is a well known member of the homosexual mafia who will stop at nothing to destroy America and Chrstianity.   This is a fact people!     Free Bradlee Dean from Barack Obama's gulags.

This is a mockery of a congressperson...right?  This has to be an impersonator...imposter?   I mean what kind of real leader, Christian or political, would expect to gain respect of her followers by the use of such devisive language?  Maybe it was just a bad and tasteless joke, taken out of context... or something....

Sorry, Jesus was a smart Jew who took his ancient faith and simplified the message for the uneducated masses to find peace and good will, Dean certainly does not fit that bill. Not now or ever.

I could not find anything in the Gospels that Jesus said that was hateful. This man is Satan Incarnate

Bradlee Dean is not hateful! He tells the truth and people don't like it! He has never called for any crime against anyone only his opinion of a lifestyle which he gets from the Creator of the world.

Regardless of what you might feel about Dean and his ilk, consider the implications for MSNBC, Maddow, the Strib, and CP is the courts agree with Dean.  It's not pretty.  A 'simple mistake' of source mis-reporting that is collected and amplified by the "downstream media" can rapidly turn into business-ending and career ending consequences.

    vitajex
    vitajex

It looks like you've got a typo there.  It should be 'if' the courts agree with Dean.  Oops, now I made a typo.  It should actually be:

"If everybody in the court system is a total idiot who disregards every precedent ever set involving the media's right to quote people."But you're right about one thing: That wouldn't be pretty.

    daughteroGod
    daughteroGod

If the courts are idiots and cannot recognize a liar when they see one! The precedent set does not allow for you to piece together your own bits and pieces and then say it is a direct quote that is illegal.
