Jesse Ventura: "We're a fascist nation now"

Ventura seesm to be starring in a movie that happens to be his real life.
Jesse Ventura's lawsuit against the Transportation Security Administration over airport pat-downs, which he refers to as "sexual assault," got underway Friday, but Ventura saved the drama for just after the first hearing ended.

Ventura says his titanium hip implant always sets off airport metal detectors, leading to a series of invasive pat-downs by TSA agents. His suit, which he brought in January, claims the procedure is a violation of his Fourth Amendment rights -- "against unreasonable searches and seizures" -- and on Friday, Ventura told the TSA attorney that the policy is un-American.

After the hearing adjourned, Ventura approached Tamara Ulrich as she prepared to leave the courtroom, according to the Pioneer Press.

"In a free country," Ventura said, "you should never feel comfortable being searched. This is not the country I was born in. We're a fascist nation now."

Ventura got a hip replacement in 2008, and since then has set off metal detectors across the country, according to the complaint.

"The Body" needs to travel frequently to film his television show, "Conspiracy Theory," a TruTV show where he and a team of young "researchers" act out the first half-hour of a Michael Bay movie, where nothing is as it seems and no one believes the main character, Ventura.

Ventura uses his pro wrestling name, and not his real one, in court documents.
Ventura's suit also rejects the option of full-body scans, which the complaint argues might be harmful with repeated exposure, and also "is tantamount to a warrantless, non-suspicion-based, electronically-recorded strip search."

On Friday, U.S. attorneys representing TSA pushed for dismissal of the case, arguing that "Standard Operating Procedure" rules can only be challenged in a federal appeals court and only within 60 days of the offense.

If and when Ventura's suit gets its day in court, expect things to get very weird. On one side is a government agency that's angered a lot of people and is, bizarrely, subjecting a former Navy Seal and state elected official to an invasive security check.

On the other side is a guy who uses his professional wrestling name, and not his given name of James G. Janos, in official court documents and who told City Pages in December 2009 that he doubts the official version of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:

"I find the government's theory to be wanting," he said. "They've told us that 19 Islamic radicals armed with box cutters defeated our multibillion-dollar air defense system, while conspiring with a bearded guy in a cave in Afghanistan."
After he left the courthouse on Friday, Ventura told reporters that it wasn't worth sacrificing individual rights in the name of safety.

"I would rather face the terrorist on a daily basis than give up one of my rights," he said.

Jesse Ventura, taking on the U.S. government and fighting terrorists on a daily basis? This is going to be the most awesome Micheal Bay movie ever.

I like Mr. Ventura--respect him greatly. But I have to disagree with him on this one. While he would "gladly face terrorists everyday instead of giving up one of his freedoms", not all of us are able or willing. While I agree that the TSA goes too far they do serve a purpose. We need to hire more capable TSA agents. Ones that use common sense. I've heard governors, war heros, sickly old ladies get frisked--this is unnecessary. Especially with the news a few weeks ago that a Nigerian was flying cross country with an invalid ticket. WTF?

Females should examine female fliers and male - male. Heck even station a K-9 at each airport. Maybe folks like Mr. Ventura could carry an official pass that indicates he has a titanium hip.

What I'm trying to say is don't just complain, offer workable solutions.

"After he left the courthouse on Friday, Ventura told reporters that it wasn't worth sacrificing individual rights in the name of safety."

Uh, no, Ventura told *a* reporter, singular. I was the only reporter who bothered to cover the hearing, and every Ventura comment that you quote from the hearing was taken, unattributed, from the article I wrote for the Pioneer Press. Yeah, you linked to the article, but your piece is written as if you were there. City Pages wasn't there, so it shouldn't write like it was.

Whoknows
Whoknows

isn't that almost tantamount to plagiarism of sorts?

I guess you'd have to ask a media ethicist (they do exist) whether it was outright plagiarism. I don't know that I would go that far; as a journalist myself, I'm going to need a very clear word-for-word copying before I call another journalist's reputation into question. Often, all a reporter has is his or her reputation. That said, reprinting quotes given to a single reporter and not attributing the source those quotes came from (beyond the link) is troubling. Ventura did not make the statements at some microphone-infested presser in front of the courthouse. He made them to the only reporter in town who took the time to show up at his court hearing.

You should sue CP but they are already bankrupt.

I don't think I like your smarmy attitude. Sounds like you're ridiculing his skepticism. Everyone should be skeptical in this day and age, ESPECIALLY about the "official story" of 9/11 and our slide towards a police state that 9/11 helped facilitate. But go ahead, keep drinking the Koolaid...

And MN Voter, stop spouting off like an idiot. Bush created the TSA, not Obama. And learn how to spell fascist.

I spout off to mimic the FAKE MB who is an idiot. They (bush & obama) are the same. Repeal the patriot act, fire the TSA and I don't give a dam about my spelling. I was educated in Wisconsin and just fired my secretary.

4 people have posted on this article.    1 of these people is you.   The other 3 are people that call you an idiot and prove this with facts.   You can't mimic me because you are neither funny or smart.

Although I believe Jesse was an UDT and not officially a "SEAL", I respect and support his legal actions 100%. The TSA needs to be abolished. Obama's facist TSA must be repealed and disgarded. I will gladly join Jesse in fighting terrorists daily when this is repealed. Our government is heading in the wrong direction. Finally, how many terrorists have been stopped by the TSA? By the civilians on the planes? I think the score is civilians 9 and TSA 0 - stop the insanity.

MN Voter:

You're right!  I couldn't believe it, in November of 2001, when then President Obama signed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act which created the fascist TSA.

What's it like to live in a world where there is no such thing as chronology and where facts are meaningless?

And speaking of facism (sic), name one piece of legislation  from the last 30 years that has done more to erode the personal liberties of American citizens than the USA Patriot Act.  Or maybe you are in favor of warrentless searches, seizure of financial records without cause, and the denial of due process.  Or maybe you like the goverment establishment of grulags.  Or maybe putting journalists in jail for not giving up their sources is your favorite...there are so many choices.

But, I better grab my binoculars and get back up to the roof....its a threat level Orange.

Note to MN Voter:  you might want to learn how to spell the new buzzwords that you are adding to your vocabulary.  FASCISM

Obama is president now and it is his TSA now. I disapprove of putting American citizens in concentration camps like FDR did. No matter what freedom must be restored. The Patriot Act needs to be repealed. The TSA needs to go away.FYI: I just came down from my roof but I don't see any terrorists.

To FAKE MB below: Obama and the dems controlled everything for two years but did not repeal the Patriot Act - No they extended it. It needs to go period. FDR rounded up American Citizens and put them into concentration camps. You are the stupidest person in the world - a good reason to keep abortion legal.

What does the world's stupidest Republican do when he is proven wrong?    He brings up FDR.   Why don't you try learning something for once in your life?  Republicans started all that crap you hate yet you blame Obama?

"I will gladly join Jesse in fighting terrorists daily when this is repealed."

What a heroic statement.   The United States thanks you for your service since you obviously are a Navy SEAL.    That's how I know you feel comfortable making sure you get a shot in at Jessie Ventura's service.    I bet you are a big war hero since you feel so comfy talking shit to terrorists over the internet.   How many tours of duty did you serve in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Here is MN Voter's handy guide to terrorist fighting:1)   Talk shit about Muslims all the time even if they have no connection to terrorism.   All Muslims must know that they are the bad guys and have no place in America.   2)   Drive an SUV.    Those terrorists hate when you drive a Hummer or equally gas guzzling car.    Think how many patriotic bumper stickers you can fit on the back of that bitch.   3)  Hate Barack Hussein Obama.    The most devious trick the devil ever pulled was having Bin Laden shot in the eye.     Everyone knows that George W. Bush should get credit for this because for some reason.   It's not important.  It's just true.  4)  Any non Republican who served in the military is a pussy and needs to be slammed for his military service.    Did you know John Kerry once murdered his entire squad of American soldiers to please the Atheist Islamofacists we were fighting for in Vietnam?   Its true I saw a commercial about it once.    Nothing shows how patriotic Republicans are like how they will use your military service to make you look bad.   Go fuck yourself Jesse Ventura you pussy non Navy Seal.   Mn Voter is the real hero here!

Fake MB: all you can muster is personal attacks. I pity your small mind. What has the TSA done to stop terror? Nothing. It is time to repeal the patriot act and the TSA.

I was a member of Seal Team Six and shot Bin Laden in the eye.    I just get sick of you Republican assholes hiding behind the flag as you rip on the military service of anyone that doesn't agree with you.  Notice I attacked you because you attacked Jesse Ventura's military service with some lame right wing anti-military talking point.   I don't see how any veteran could be a Republican after what they did to John Kerry and Max Cleland so you are either a liar or an idiot.   Go fuck yourself pretending you are some nice normal person asshole.  I've been following your posts on City Pages forever and all you do is spread lies and hate.     Fuck you about personal attacks, that's all you post douchebag.   My posts are at least 50% jokes and 50% personal attacks.

Fake MB: A couple of Facts: the UDT was a forerunner to the Seals. I have never claimed to be a Navy Seal, although I did work with them once. I didn't serve in Afghanistan or Iraq. I served in the same war as John Kerry and John McCain. I volunteered when my country needed me and don't need you to speak for America or "thank me". I'm way past that son. I've lived in the Middle East, I have friends who are muslim and you truly are the most bigoted person I've ever heard from. I'm sure you don't even recognize your own hate. I think you need professional help?

Fake MB: What the fuck have you ever done for America?
