Police got to the scene of a shooting in south Minneapolis last night in time to keep the victim alive long enough for an an ambulance ride to Hennepin County Medical Center, but he died this morning.

The medical examiner's office hasn't made the victim's name public yet.

The shooting took place in the 2700 block of Longfellow Avenue South at about 11:15 p.m., MPD spokesman Sgt. Steve McCarty says. That's a little more than a block from where the Midtown Greenway bike path crosses Hiawatha Avenue.

No suspects are in custody and anyone with information that could help MPD's homicide unit with the investigation is asked to call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
