The former Roseville Area football star met a tragic end
Sean Matti, the Purdue college student and former Roseville Area High School football star missing in Indiana, has been found dead this morning. He was 22.

Authorities pulled Matti's body from Lake Freeman, near Monticello, where he was celebrating the 4th of July weekend with friends.

Matti was last seen swimming in the southwestern shore of the lake at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Friends looked for Matti for several hours before finally calling police.

Authorities searched Sunday night, all day Monday, before finally recovering the body this morning.

The lake is about 120 miles southeast of Chicago, near Delphi, Ind.

Purdue's athletic director, Morgan Burke, quickly issued this statement on the tragic news:

"On behalf of the entire Purdue Boilermaker family, our hearts go out to Sean's family -- Frank and Karen, Samantha, Kyle and Amanda -- and all those who knew and loved him. It is during difficult times like these that families must unite to grow stronger, and we extend our hands out to help however we can."

Matti was a walk-on running back of Purdue's football team, and though he rarely played, he did catch a touchdown pass in the Boilermakers' spring game.

The Shoreview man was a standout at Roseveille Area, where he earned all-state, all-metro and all-conference honors after completing 150 tackles and 12 sacks his senior year. He was also named Suburban East Conference Defensive Player of the Year and team Defensive Player of the Year, and, when he wasn't playing football, set a school record in discus.

What this fails to mention was that Sean was such a kind, nice guy who had so many people who looked up to him and was so proud of his accomplishments. The entire Roseville community grieves for its loss, and our prayers go out to the Matti family.
