Gunfire rang out three times last night in north Minneapolis, wounding three males--two of them under the age of 18. Both incidents involving juveniles also included bikes.

An unnamed 15-year-old was shot by someone on a bicycle, and an unnamed 17-year-old was riding his bike when he was shot. The incidents happened a few hours and less than a mile apart. Minneapolis police are investigating to see if the incidents are related.

"That seems to be the million-dollar question," says Sgt. Stephen McCarty of the MPD.

The first shooting took place at around 6:15 p.m. at Lowry Avenue North and Penn Avenue North. A 15-year-old boy was in front of the E & L market, when a suspect on a bicycle pedaled near and shot him. The suspect fled, and the 15-year-old was transported to North Memorial hospital, where he was expected to survive just fine.

The second shooting took place a mile and a half away few hours later, at 11:03 p.m. Thirty-five-year-old Leroy Smalley was walking down the street at 11th Avenue North and Irving Avenue North, when he heard a loud "pop," according to McCarty. He looked down and saw that his leg was bleeding--he'd been shot. Smalley was also taken to the hospital.

Just nine minutes later, at 11:12 p.m., a 17-year-old was riding his bicycle at Penn Avenue North and 21st Avenue North, just under a mile away from the first shooting. Gunshot rang out--the boy on the bike was hit in the back.

No one has been arrested in any of the cases at this time.

Here are the locations of the three shootings:

Stick to covering entertainment where accuracy matters less.

I grew up in the Northside...between Plymouth & HWY 55 (Olson Memorial Highway) / Penn Ave & Theodore Wirth....hmmmm...I don't remember anything bad when I was coming up..  It was way further past North Commins Park...I was up there for few weeks cpl years ago....walked all over the place,  Felt safer there than alot of places....Alot of the same families still living in the old neighborhood,  it was and STILL is a beautiful area....I TIRED OF FOLKS GETTING CRAZY when the media brings up "North Minneapolis"  before saying exact area bad things happen....North Minneapolis is a HUGE area, and knowing the area, the bad stuff is happening in predominately white neighborhoods....????   Why cant they say exactly where the trouble is rather than just Northside?    Also, it frustrating to hear & see folks blame it all on black folks...NOT FAIR AT ALL!!!!!!!

p.s.:  I am white, and the Northside of Minneapolis WILL ALWAYAS  be home to me....and anyone that don't like can kiss my a****

This is possibly the most embarrassing thing I've seen here, and that's saying a lot, since City Pages is pretty much scraping the toilet bowl already when it comes "writing" and "news" --- I'm actually not convinced this was written by a person at all. I think the article is the result of some kind of algorithm that uses tumblr likes and facebook comments to compose stories...or unpaid college interns? Same thing?

has anyone who writes for city pages ever actually been to the north side? E & L market is not on penn ave, many blocks away on the corner of emerson & lowry. hence the E and the L

You are so right Rissipoo08, I grew up on the Northside and when I say Northside I mean every bit of it. I lived pretty much all over it in 47 years.. say yeah your entire posting makes a lot of sense, either black or white people need to understand NOT all parts of the NORTH is NIGGArated with killing one another, it happens everywhere and of coarse the MEDIA blows up everything that comes out the north end so I'm with you on this one here.... NOT FAIR AT ALLL!!!
