Tony Hauser, announcing his cancer diagnosis last year
Anthony Hauser, whose son Daniel made national headlines when he fled the state in order to refuse chemotherapy treatment for his Hodgkin's lymphona, has died.

The death certificate has not yet been released, but a family spokesman says cardiac arrest--not cancer--killed Anthony Hauser last week. On Thursday Hauser had a series of six heart attacks, and the last one evidently did him in.

"We can't say for sure, but it seems possible that he was exposed to something from his farm or a neighboring area," says Dan Zwakman, a family friend. "All of a sudden he woke up one morning and had a hard time breathing."

Hauser, a dairy farmer from Sleepy Eye, leaves behind a wife and nine children under the age of 18.

The Hauser family made news back in 2009, when Anthony's wife Colleen fled the state in order to avoid court-ordered chemotherapy for their 13-year-old son. Daniel Hauser was suffering from Hodgkin's lymphoma. The boy, now 15, eventually returned to Minnesota and underwent treatment, and Zwakman says he is now in full remission.

Anthony Hauser told reporters last year that he was battling a rare and aggressive form of leukemia, and that he would forgo conventional treatment in favor of a dietary regimen. Zwakman explained that Anthony Hauser was treating his condition by eating a diet consisting primarily of pureed vegetables.

"He was doing well battling leukemia and holding it pretty much at bay," Zwakman says.

But last Wednesday, Anthony Hauser woke up and had trouble breathing. He was airlifted to the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, in Mankato. He died in the hospital on Thursday.

Zwakman claims that the average lifespan after diagnosis with the kind of cancer Anthony Hauser had is six to eight weeks. Anthony Hauser lived two years after being diagnosed.

Zwakman said he did not know the exact name of the cancer.

Colleen and Daniel Hauser are part of a group that favors natural healing over conventional medicine. Anthony Hauser was not officially a member, Zwakman says, but nonetheless followed its stance on conventional treatments.

"He declined all of it and never took any of it," Zwakman says. "He did blood transfusions once in a while, and he was working on detoxifying the body, trying to rebuild the immune system through the diet."

Colleen Hauser could not be immediately reached by phone.

I wanted to laugh at this story and say "Guess God didn't want to answer his prayers." But I think it's admirable that instead of just trying to pray the cancer away, he tried to fight it with his diet.

This man is a hero to all Tea Party Americans like me.   Anthony Hauser is a fine example of man that puts his beliefs ahead of any sort of science.   As all Tea Party Republicans know science has a liberal bias.    How are doctors any different than the criminal terrorist climate change scientists?   Both so called "experts" use the scientific method to arrive at the crazy made up theories they spout.   I can think of no bigger socialists than doctors with their socialist European sports cars.   After all Tea Party patriots let's not forget that Barack Obama socialized medicine.   I call on all Republicans to refuse all medical treatment from now on as a protest against socialism and the made up junk known as science.    Medical science is exactly the same as climate change science in how they prove and arrive at their theories people so let's tell these eggheads the only medicine we need is Jesus.   I say no more medicine!     Please every Tea Party patriot follow my lead and reject all forms of the devil's science.   Let's show Obama how much we hate him by refusing all forms of medical treatment except prayer!!!!!!!

It's admirable, but stupid.  It's like a soldier saying, "I'm going to storm the enemy battlements armed with this butterknife!  It will show how brave I am."  While there is a General saying, "You'll probably have a better chance if you climb into this tank."

Hauser ignored science in favor of intuition and prayer.  I'm all in favor of intuition and prayer.  Both play a meaningful and important role in my life.  I won't give up on prayer.  But that won't convince me to ignore science either.

Jesus, woman.

Socialism like you describe it has absolutely nothing to do with medicine, and modern medicine, while of course not foolproof, has its merits. Why do you think people used to die in their 30s or 40s in the middle ages, but life expectancy is in the 60s and 70s in first-world countries today? It's not the purity of the air, I'll tell you that. Please go right ahead in rejecting all sorts of medical treatment. The day you get sick you'll rid us of your... brilliance.

You don't know anything of science, stinky. If one believes in global warming they must also believe in religion and vice-versa . Show me science in either scenario and maybe i'll vote for your trick ass.
