Michele Bachmann fights Bill O'Reilly, accidentally invents Medicaid [VIDEO]

Bill O'Reilly picked on Bachmann in a way that Fox News normally doesn't.
Michele Bachmann was on TV last night for a little plugging from her favorite channel, Fox News, and its most popular host, Bill O'Reilly.

But instead of the typical "we're in this together, go get the black guy -- I mean bad guy, get the bad guy" Fox treatment, O'Reilly grilled Bachmann, pulling the same bullying act he normally saves for people on the other side of the aisle.

On the spending subject Bachmann stuck to her position that the military, Medicare and Social Security can't even be considered for cuts, thereby taking about two-thirds of the federal budget off the table. But, referring again to Meidcare and Social Security, she offered the rather empty obsevation that "the time for entitlement reform is now."

O'Reilly pushed back.

"Okay," he said, "but what's your idea about that?"

Pressed by O'Reilly, who seemed genuinely unimpressed, Bachmann -- like a 30 watt light bulb, blinking in a basement -- came up with a radical new plan.

"There's been good suggestions that have come out there," she said.

"Like what?" O'Reilly badgered her. "Gimme one."

"Well," Bachmann began, "people who don't have sufficient income could have their health insurance subsidized, and so for those people who do have sufficient income, then they would purchase their own health insurance."

Genius! But what will we call it? Oh, I know, how about Medicaid!

Bachmann is right to get this out there now, early in the campaign... although she'd better hope that Lyndon Johnson doesn't think of it first.

Watch the surprisingly testy interview below.

She said "Health Insurance" subsidized not healhcare subsidized, which is what medicaid is.  Get your facts and story straight, please.  BTW... Right now anyone who does not have health insurance can get free emergency care just by going to the emergency room.  they can't turn you away.  At least this might help get those people to use health insurance, even if it's subsidized.  probably cheaper on the tax payer since right now we have to pay full price to the hospitals to subsidize their costs to cover these folks when they don't have insurance.  Either pay full healthcare cost, or just cover the insurance premium for them.  Not ideal, but better than what we got now.

Racism is a bunch of black kids running around randomly beating white people to a pulp.

Mike (Mullen), You are taking what Bachmann said completely out of context (probably intentionally). Watch the interview again an see if you get it.

And just yesterday, i was commenting that compared Palin, Bachman is a genius.  Bet she wishes she could take that one back.  To me, this should be bigger news than say...the Newsweek cover.

It seems to me that most republicans are for socialized ideas that are good for this country.  All we have to do is give it a label that sounds good to a republican or at least confuses them.  The other day, I read a comment from a republican saying that Obama was trying to take our 401k's because he used the term 'government retirement account".  He could not deduce that the prez was referring to Social Security.

"Well," Bachmann began, "people who don't have sufficient income could have their health insurance subsidized..."

I'm always impressed by folks who throw "racism" around like they're actually saying something.  Go sit through another diversity training,  moron.

It is awesome City Pages is one of the few media sources that treats Fox News as the racist news organization it is.

Anything to do with Insurance is a scam.  It's not wonder why medical care is so expensive in this country!! why can't there be socialized healthcare and private healthcare?  Not to mention if we do have to have an insurance based solution - why does it have to be related to my job?

You are so right, the law is called EMTALA - Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act and the taxpayer is already paying for this now, especially the wealthy taxpayer, because the areas where these ERs are most used, are generally poor inner cities or poor rural areas, both of which do not pay taxes. I don't know, would I be happy to get my medical care from emergency physicians, some of the best trained doctors at that? and my friends, that includes all comers, including illegal immigrants.

If that really is Bachmann's remarks, she doesn't know how to spell her first name. So I think it is tongue in cheek.

Actually you are wrong on this. Call it whatever account you want, there has been plenty of talk about seizing the 401k's in a effort to protect us citizens from a volatile stock market (and probably in Obama's mind, ourselves) and invest primary in government debt. Feel free to google it. Here is one example in the evolutionary idea: http://www.dailymarkets.com/ec...

"people who don't have sufficient income could have their health insurance subsidized..."

Hmm…subsidized insurance for people who can't afford it.

That's gold, Shelly. Gold!

It's not Socialism because a Republican is saying it.   Every idea Democrats come up with is Socialism.    Any idea Republicans come up with is about spreading freedom.   See I'm not too clear what socialism is but I know its bad.

I like how racist dipshits always think they are saying something profound when they say something a caveman might have thought thousands of years ago.   If you don't think there is a problem with racism in this country go read the comments about the Wisconsin State Fair.   It's amazing how whenever there is a story that makes black people look bad there is 300 racists to spread their stupidity in the comments.   Barack Obama's presidency has just exposed how widespread racism is in the Republican party.   If you can't detect a theme when a political party has a problem with blacks, immigrants, gay people, women, and every religion that isn't Christianity you just aren't very smart.

It's not racist.  If you think it is, you probably don't know what racism really is, you just use the term as a synonym for "stuff I don't like".

That's a shit ton of generalizations there.  Hospitals absorb the cost of EMTALA since the federal does not fund it, and each hospital has its own structure of revenue most of which comes from state pool.  If you really think the rich pay for most of the state's budget then maybe you can say that.  As for inner cities, Minneapolis and Saint Paul have some of the wealthiest tax-paying residents in the state and the most highly taxed landowners in the state, without us you wouldn't be able to drive down a highway.  And oh yeah Reagan passed EMTALA.

Is socialism is so bad, why do we have a socialized police force?  Maybe we should privatize law enforcement.  That would be interesting.... Only the rich get to be protected.

Actually I use the term with absolute care.    I've seen how Fox News treats the President and black people in general and they are definitely playing to the racism and bigotry that runs in the Republican Party today.    For recent examples of Fox News racism just look at how desperate they are to tie Obama to black rappers.   Obama had one rapper at his 50th birthday party yet it became a hip hop BBQ.   The headline at Fox News was accompanied by pictures of exclusively black male celebrities who attended even though there was more famous people of different races.   Obviously Fox News is playing to racists when it does that, if they were motivated by more sensible things like say greed they would have put Tom Hanks picture up there since it would have resulted in more page views.  The whole fake controversy about Common was another example of this.   Every host on Fox News went out of their way to call Common a "thug" and a "gangster" which is silly if you actually knew something about Common.   But since Common is black and a rapper the brain dead Fox viewers will believe the lies because they want to believe all black men are "thugs" and "gangsters."     These are just the most recent and obvious examples of this.  Don't even get me started on how they treat Muslims and gay people.   It's not isolated incidents, its coming from the top.   If you can't see it you are either stupid, blind or racist.
