Minneapolis cops shoot armed suspect

Five cops had just finished arresting another person in an unrelated case when they heard the sound of gunshots. Moments later, as they moved toward the sound, the police saw a man running away from the location of the shots.
Cops chased the man off Cedar and onto the 2400 block of Ogema Place. As he ran, the man pulled a gun from his pocket. Police shouted at him to drop the gun, but when he didn't, one cop fired on the man and brought him down.
The man, 23, was taken to HCMC and was expected to survive, according to Sgt. William Palmer. The man did not shoot at police, and as of this morning, Palmer couldn't say whether or not the man's gun was loaded, but said that wasn't really the point.
"If you point a gun at police, it doesn't really matter to us if it's loaded," Palmer said.
The five officers involved have been placed on the three-day administrative leave that follows any incident like this one, and the case has been turned over to the Internal Affairs Unit and Homicide department, which are conducting parallel investigations.
Palmer couldn't say how many shots were fired before the officer hit the man, and said police did not know the circumstances of the gunshots he was seen running from.
