Adrian Peterson got the money -- now just give him the ball.
Adrian Peterson got paid, and just in time.

One day before the Vikings kick off their new season against the San Diego Chargers, the team resigned Peterson to a massive new contract: Seven years, $100 million, with $36 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.

The stud  running back was entering the last year of the contract he'd signed when the Vikings drafted him, and was due around $11 million this year. Now, with his new incentive-laced contract, he will be looking at even bigger paychecks over the next seven years.

If fulfilled, the contract will carry Peterson to age 32, and make him one of the best-paid running backs ever.

Tomorrow's return trip to San Diego brings a good reminder of why "All Day" gets the big money: Last time Peterson played against the Chargers, in his breakout rookie season, he set the all time NFL record with 296 rushing yards.

After leading the league in rushing in 2009, Peterson had a slight drop-off in total production last year when injury forced him out of a couple games, but still ran for 1,298 yards, good enough for sixth-best in the league. Over the last four years, Peterson's scored 54 touchdowns, the most in the NFL in that span, ESPN reports.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, head coach Leslie Frazier didn't mention digits, but certainly made it sound like Peterson's worth the money.

"Adrian is, to me, the best running back in pro football and we're happy to have him as a part of the organization for the long term," Frazier said.

Peterson took to his Twitter account to put out his own statements, offering gratitude. Peterson tweeted that he wants to take the Vikings to the Super Bowl, and retire wearing the purple and gold.

Very excited! Thx to God, my family, the Vikings, the fans for support. Can't wait to get a ring and finish my career in Minn.less than a minute ago via WhoSay Favorite Retweet Reply
