Amy Senser, Joe Senser's wife, was driving SUV at the time of deadly hit-and-run

Attorneys for former Vikings tight end Joe Senser have confirmed in a statement that it was Amy Senser, Joe's wife, driving the SUV at the time of a deadly hit-and-run.

Anousoune Phanthavong, the head chef at True Thai, was filling his car up with gas alongside I-94 when he was hit by a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The car left him at the scene and he died later.

Police soon found out the car was registered to Senser, but until now, it was unclear who was driving.

"Now that various legal matters have been clarified regarding a potential criminal case and civil lawsuit, it is now appropriate to disclose that the driver in this incident was Ms. Amy Senser," the statement from Halberg Defense says.

According to the statement, the Sensers contacted their attorneys the day after Phanthavong's death to "coordinate discussion" with police. It adds that the car was voluntarily turned over to authorities. State patrol found the gold SUV in the Sensers's garage, with blood on the hood. Inside, they found a bobbypin, earrings and the cap off a Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Although Joe Senser was never thought to be the driver on the night of the accident, there was some speculation he may have loaned the car to one of his daughters.

"There have been many complex and overlapping issues involved in the investigation of this case which have made it inappropriate to release the name of the driver until this time," the statement says as explanation.

At this point, Amy Senser has not been arrested.

Phanthavong on his way home from closing True Thai when he was killed. The statement adds that the Sensers's attorneys have also spoken to the personal injury lawyer retained by the family.

"The Senser family extends their deepest sympathies to all those affected," the statement concludes.

I DON'T BELIEVE HER...  A PERSON LOOKS IN THEIR REARVIEW MIRROR WHEN THEY THINK THEY'VE HIT ANYTHING!!  VERY EASY TO SEE SHE IS CLEARLY NOT TELLING THE TRUTH,, THIS MAN DIED BECAUSE OF HER NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ROAD,, SHE HIT, AND MOST DEFINATELY HAD TO HAVE SEEN THE CAR/MAN SOMETHING THAT BIG IN HER REARVIEW MIRROR,, DUE TO NOT BEING HONEST ABOUT ANYTHING I THINK SHE NEEDS TO SERVE MAX TIME.. A PERSON WHO WAS SORRY/ETC WOULD BE MORE HONEST, WOULD BE WILLING TO SERVE TIME FOR TAKING SOMEONE'S LIFE.  YOU LIVED, HE DIED... BECAUSE OF YOU.  YOU OWE IT TO HIS FAMILY, AND FRIENDS WHO WILL NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN TO DO YOUR TIME, HAD YOU BEEN HONEST/CONFESSED/ IT WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE FORGIVING TO ADMIT ANY WRONG DOING. TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH IT AND GO ABOUT WITH A SLAP ON THE WRIST NOT RIGHT!

That was a great story, Joe was well respected as a Viking and I don't know him, but I believe what you say and hope they get through this, it was an accident anyway you look at it

She should just go to the court, plead guilty and accept the full punishment for vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and DUI. I am sure she would be all over the police if it was her husband who was run down and left to die on the side of a road.

1 - Check the families facebook entries.  where were they before, during and after?2 - Check phone records, and gps locations, of all family members.3 - credit card records - what was purchased at what location 1 hour before?  Was there by chance, the purchase of a Mikes Hard Lemonade ?   because...3 - The cap on the Mikes hard lemonade that was found in the car... possible key evidence?4 - Check appointment books - where were they all "supposed" to be that night ?5 - Friends know where they were - someone was with them that night - what are their stories ?

I heard yesterday on the news. MPR to be exact. That the D.A. said the only reason there has been a progression in this case is because of public outcry against the Sensor family.  A person was killed on the side of the road. The vehicle used, drove off. Not stopping mind you to give support to the injured. Now, said vehicle is located, and in the owner ship of the Sensor family. There should be no reason why this case does not progress. I am appalled frankly by how slow the D.A. is moving on this as well as are court system. I feel deeply for the victims families and all of those that will miss Anousoune.

Personally, if this happened on August 23, and she was charged only today, I want to know what took them so long to charge her?  Couldn't possibly have had anything to do with WHO she is could it?

I am sure that Anousoune Phanthavong had the lights flashing on his car and reflector spaced the correct distance behind his car and had a reflective coat on.  Also he would be alive today if he had done proper maintenance to his car (put gas in it at a gas station).  Why not talk about Anousoune Phanthavong many possible infractions?  If Ms Sencer did see and hear the hit it will be with her all her life.  Did Anousoune Phanthavong have the right through his own neglect to put that burden on some else?

Counselor, the Senser family can stuff it up their snooty noses.   I am an Ultra- conservftive, Confederate, Republican, honorably dischareged veteran,  college graduate, stuck in an upper income situation during a time when the French and Bolshevik Revolutions are swirling around us.     Then someone writes a smarming, weaselly, snippy little letter asking for "privacy at this time as they continue to deal with this tragic matter"......HELLO....Counselor...the woman kind of invaded some Cambode's or Siamese type person's PRIVACY!!!!!!    What about his family????   I don't care if he's a homosexual. vegetarian, Democrat...he was doing something legal and your client is a murderer.   His people deserve some privacy, your client deserves to be PART OF THE PUBLIC RECORD.   SHE PRESENTS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER TO HERSELF AND ALL AROUND HER!!!!

Motion Denied, Couselor!

Can you give me a break???   This cow is an "important person"?   Too important to answer a few questions about murdering an innocent, highly skilled, productive person?   Who in the hell does she think she is?   Hillary Clinton?   Madame Moochelle?     Reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to control vehicle, collision with fault implied, depraved indifference to a casualty resulting from one's own criminial act, murder with a motor vehicle as a deadly weapon or felony vehicular manslaughter, tampering with evidence.    In Texas, even with considerable pull, she would be looking at as much as a 99 year sentence....a jury would probably award a sentence of 7 to 20 years considering all the stuff that could be presented during the felony punishment phase.   I have seen both such sentences of "important people" with ultra-top-drawer criminal defense attorneys.  I've seen two or three of them walk as well.   They brought bigger problems upon themselves later in life, so perhaps Aunt Karma decided to become involved.      On the civil side.....can you imagine calculating the loss of anticipatable income for a head chef?    How old was the CHef?   Was he married with children?       I'm so sick of drunks killing worthwhile people....if the drunks could just manage to drive into a concete wall by themselves....what a beautiful world it would be.

What a bunch of crap! A hit and run that results in a fatality is a felony! She should have stopped. But doing so would have allowed the cops to test her for intoxication. If she doesn't go to jail, we should boycott the Joe Sensord's sports bars!

I reviewed this blog during my lunch.  Many different opinions are expressed.  So many I believe that "interested"  lawyers will be plucking valid issues from this discussion.  I think your expressed opinions may be directing the course of the defense strategy.

I really don't care whether it's because she's black or white, there is seriously something wrong with a system that if you are poor and you leave the scene of an accident, swat teams show up to come get you; if you are rich they wait for your lawyer to call  them.  This woman needs to be arrested and charged with a crime.  A Dead man, his blood on her car and she left the scene.  While the police sit and scratch their heads to figure out what the best PR move is, a man's life has been taken, his children are without a father, a wife without a husband, a brother and sister have lost family... I hope they end up with every single thing the Sensor's owned since material things mean so much to those who have "achieved Edina".  How ridiculous is this story - she waited for her system to clean out and then they called the police.  She may have been scared to "get out of the car" in that neighborhood - but it's NO EXCUSE for leaving even a dog dying on the side of the road let alone a man... don't care if he was homeless or a wage earner, he was a human being who does not deserve his life to be belittled and end in such a callous manner.  And maybe she feels a lot of remorse, but ya know what, too bad... grow up and take some responsibility for your actions.  don't shield yourself behind a law firm who only cares how fat your checkbook is, not what's right.  And worse of all, her husband made the statement, is she so fragile?  This is why real people call people like her barbie dolls.  She may be a perfectly nice person, but if someone did this to one of her lolved one's she would be outraged.  My guess is she has a little prescription drug problem and was probably mixing it with alcohol.  A phenomenon that is far more dangerous and socially acceptable than any street drug you can get ahold of these days.  If this was her family member, she would have insisted the police arrest the responsible party and guess what, they would have done it without hesitation.  But oh, it's Joe Sensor's wife, gotta tread lightly.  I'd rather not turn this into a race issue, but if you don't know what DWB means, you don't get it and never will.  I can't do 4 miles over the speed limit without getting pulled over.. but every day I see a white person in a nice suv going 30 miles over the speed limit on a 35 mile an hour road, and there's NEVER a cop around... but if I go 4 miles over, suddenly they are right behind me, and after they pull me over another car shows up - never mind that there are already two officers in the first car - the second car came for backup in case my black ass is some kind of thug with a trunk full of crack.  I'm so sick of the privileged white folks who run around so clueless.  By the way I've been in that neighborhood off Riverside a million times, day and night, never had any problems.  All she had to do was pull over, lock her doors and call the police.  She didn't even have to get out and see whether she hit someone she knew she did... you don't break a "fog light" and throw someone 40 feet without knowing you hit someone.  And what a nice thing to say after all this the only thing they can say is "...extends our deepest sympathies to all those effected".  R U fn serious all those affected, how more lawyerly can u sound.  U killed someone, a human being is dead and instead of thinking oh maybe I should call 911 and see if they can save his life, you went right to save ur own behind.  This is EXACTLY what's wrong with society today too easy to buy your way out of anything u do wrong.  We got more problems that go way deeper than whether President Obama can resolve the economic crisis the Bush administration got us into.  We will never survive if we don't start treating EVERY HUMAN BEING the same way WE WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.  I'm so sick of this it's making me sick to my stomach and ashamed to call myself an American.  Here's the sad part, I know a lot of wealthy white folks who are perfectly nice, good people, not racist, who give to charity, who do things for others, who have empathy and aren't all consumed by their materials goods, but when someone of their culture does something like this, it's unfair to categorize all rich people that way... because they are not all that way... we only hear about the bad one's because they usually do something like this and end up on the front page of the news.  The same goes for others... that's why we should stop grouping people and treat each person as an individual until we know their true spirit, this one's spirit is all about herself and protecting herself and I'm ashamed to say I don't feel one bit of sorrow for her and "how difficult of a time this has been for the Sensor family".  Sorry honey, you killed someone, your difficult days are just starting and your poor judgment of leaving the scene of an accident would get any normal person arrested immediately.   Your pre-statement negotiations between your legal team and the police is a sickening reminder of how easy it is to be immoral, have everything you could possibly want, and then buy you way out of the mess u made.  I'm glad we aren't all rich, if this is what happens when you mix lack of morals and empathy with lots of cash.  Wow this is one for the history books.

Bla bla bla. Words. Fancy opinion. Ridiculous statement. Incoherent conclusion. Guilty! Why do things that are bad happen to people? I'm right. You're wrong, and dumb too! If only we were on the gold standard and my dad were the president, then it would all be perfect. Lillipops, grenades, handguns missiles, preternatural tendencies, the long war. Just take Jesus, for example: he never was drinking wine from old wineskins or new ones behind the wheel of a government vehicle. Doesn't that make sense? Doesn't that just seal the deal - put the nail in the coffin, so to speak? Now you know; and knowing is half the battle. G.I. Joe: Real American Hero. I'll give anybody $10 for $20. Sure, it may seem like a bad deal, and $20 is more than $10, but $10 is better than $20. Think about it.

The Joe IKnow

I’ve read most of the blogs posted below and first wanted to say that Isympathize with the Phantavog family and feel that yes they deserve justice forAnousoune. Amy made a grave mistake by leaving the scene of the accident andshe will have her day in court. She will face a Judge, Jury and be sentencedaccordingly.

What disturbs me is the character assassination of the Senser familywithout knowing who they are or all the facts in this case. I worked at Senser’sfor 5 years and the Joe I know is a caring and giving person. Money or celebritystatus was not something that Joe flaunted. He always wanted to help people ormake them feel good about themselves. He treated his employees like family andI loved working for him. From time to time we would get a homeless person walkin off the street and Joe would right away want to give them something warm toeat and some money. That’s the Joe I know.

I have met Amy Senser on many occasions and have never seen her drinkalcohol or be intoxicated, so the ones that are calling her a drunk are so offthe mark. She is not a devil or drug addict either. She’s a mother and a wifethat made a horrible mistake. All the years that I worked there I had neverseen Joe drink alcohol either, so I doubt very much that he would be married toan alcoholic, drug addict or a she devil.

I know what you’re going to say, “he owns a bar, so must promotedrinking,” but the reality is was he wanted people to come into his establishment, have a good time, drink a beer, eat good food and watch their favorite teamplay. When we had our yearly Christmas party’s Joe made it very clear that itwas a two drink minimum, because he wanted everyone to get home safely. He didn’twant our party to be a drunken fest with drama or fighting (as we all know canhappen when alcohol is involved). He wanted all the stores to get together andhave a fun time.

In closing, my belief is that Amy probably got scared and fled, so hadno choice but to retain council after the accident. In my opinion it was asmart thing to do. People are saying that because they are rich or havecelebrity status that they have been treated differently, but in my opinionmaybe the investigators are not arresting Amy because of the Senser’s status. They want to make sure that they have all their I’s dotted and T’s crossedbefore making the arrest. We all know that when you have money you can retain agood lawyer and I’m pretty sure all of them watched the O.J. Simpson trial. Idon’t believe the Senser’s are just sitting back and enjoying this either. Amy’snot out getting her hair done or going to the spa. The Senser’s I know aregrieving for the family of Anousoune Phantavog and wish that horrific night hadnever happened.

HopkinsKC states," There are things worse than death".  Why don't you explain that to the victims family.  I bet if this happened to one of your loved one, you would be talking much differently.  You're a sick individual or you are Amy Senser disguising yourself as HopkinsKC.

Thank you for the confession Mrs Senser, but the law dictates that, since you were driving an expensive Mercedes Benz SUV when you killed that boy and fled the scene, and since you are married to a very wealthy man, you MUST prove yourself guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt before we can take you into custody.

Look at her eyes in the photo.  Even tho this is a previous photo, to me her eyes are those of someone who is an alcoholic or has a drug problem.  Her eyes are very cloudy and not clear and healthy.  Freaky looking too.

Send her to prison!! She left someone to die in the road.  Can you imagine being hit by a 4000+ lb load of steel and then left bleeding and to die?  Think about it.

I have sent a lot of emails to Mark Freeman ( ineffective Hennepin county attorney), the state patrol, R.T. Rybak, Governor Dayton, anyone I could think of that could do something about  this grave injustice. I would like to know that other people are voicing their outrage to the people who are responsible for allowing her to relax in Edina, instead of facing justice like everyone else would. Let's let these people know they are making a serious mistake, and sending the wrong message. Thanks to all who stand up against this and any injustice. If anyone is organizing a protest, I would love to be a part of it.

I am wondering why Amy Senser is not being charged, or why she was not arrested. This is blatantly racist, and sickening to me. Had he hit and killed her, he would have been arrested, charged, and we would have seen a lot more media coverage, in which people would be screaming for his blood. the Senser family have shown their true selves by lying, and playing games with the state patrol, hiding what was obviously a drunken hit and run, thinking that she deserves special consideration because of her finances, or social clout. These people have this sick sense of entitlement, looking to pay their way out of the mess she created, without serving jail time, or even apologizing. Where is the outrage? Why has this been kept so hush hush? Is Mark Freeman friends with the Sensers? He must be to not even charge her. This cannot stand, if she was a black man she would be on her way to prison for a long time. Maybe it's time to make an example out of a rich white murderer for a change.

Shame on all of you! Let the investorgators do their job. There is no judge and jury yet so there should be no verdict. I'm sure  the Senser's lawyer said " Do not say anything until you are in court". I'm also pretty sure that charges have not been filed because it is Labor Day weekend and most government offices are closed. The Senser's are not having a lovely weekend enjoying a barbecue. They are devistated as anyone would be in such a tragic situation. As for not knowing if you hit something. LOL... Ridge and the others who keep blaming the dead guy for being on the road and out of gas.  C'mon really people?  H'bout being drunk and strucking someone dead and dragging the body for a considerable distance while fleeing the scene of the crime.  If Ms. Sensor wasnt drunk and driving appropriately by slowing down while seeing a stalled vehicle on the far side of the road you can argue the same that she wouldnt have struck and killed a person.  Stop the nonsense debate.  It's laughable arguement that any any person in their right mind or even the court wont hesistate to throw it out the moment its mentioned.  Your argument is no more credible than a drunk person driving another car and hitting another driver on the road causing their vehicle to crash and die.  Your arguing that person should be blamed also for just driving on the same road while there's a drunk loose on the highway without knowing?  Who knew this person was gonna be drunk and out striking people on the roadways?  Did someone sent you an invite to watch out for the lady drunk driving tonight at 11pm in the Mercedes SUV so that you wont be on the same highway as her? No matter how good a person is if they drive drunk they drive with the intent to kill. They chose to get drunk. They chose to get behind the wheel without consequences. There is no arguing that you shouldn't be drinking and driving. And if you were responsible drinker you have a designated sober driver to get you home....

This things can be said but they cannot erase the facts.   The one certainty in the fine letter and sets of observations is the beginning of the sentence in the first paragraph, where it is stated that "......Amy made a grave....."     Out of context, but it hit me in the nose.   They said the same thing about the guy who killed my Godfather.   Think of his poor family, and he is really, really a nice guy. They were "greiving" for my Godfather....by having a barbeque....celebrating his recent promotion at a bank his father and some of Lloyd Bentsen's lackeys owned.   They were really nice people, if you could only have known them.."like we know them:"..I do not buy it.   Nice people do not leave the scene.   She put herself first to look for a cheap shot way out when the chips were down.   If she could have managed to get someone to call in a "Somebody stole my car story" , she would have.

It was a 'smart' thing to do to flee the scene and retain council?  Yikes.  If she was indeed sober, and this was purely an accident, she should have stopped immediately after the impact and called emergency.  Period.  The reason that she is going to face jail time and the Senser's will be sued and have to pay damages is that the driver BOLTED from the scene of an accident - a fatal accident.  It doesn't matter if she was scared, drunk or oblivious - the driver carelessly broke the law and will pay the consequences.

I was saying it was a smart thing to retain council after the fact, not for the two decisions to be linked together. I agree that if it was an accident she should have stopped. Period. In my statement I never agreeed that she shouldn't have stopped. The reason I wrote in this blog was for people to stopped assuming the Senser's are this horrible family. People assume so much before all the facts are revealed, such as saying Amy is a drunk or on drugs. Case point and fact, investigators are now looking in to the kids. Amy may be trying to protect one of her children. I understand that people are saying all these mean things because they're angry, so am I, but we should step back and get all the facts straight before we assasinate someone's character.
