Good Samaritan shoots, kills man robbing and beating old woman

Categories: Crime
When the man witnessed the violent crime, he pulled his own gun and chased the mugger.
Last night in the span of just a few minutes, Minneapolis police received two 911 calls. The first told them that a man was robbing and pistol-whipping an elderly woman in the parking lot of a south Minneapolis Cub Foods.

The second call told the cops that the mugger was dead.

According to police, a Good Samaritan witnessed the crime and used his own gun to shoot and kill the criminal, who is currently described only as a man in his 20s.

The Good Samaritan was taken into custody, and police are still investigating the incident, but so far the story checks out: When cops arrived on the scene, they found the old woman with lacerations on her head where the mugger hit her with his gun.

The crime call came in around 9:45 p.m. from the Cub Foods on the 2800 block of 26th Avenue South. The robbery suspect was then fatally shot behind the Super Grand Buffet on the same block.

The Good Samaritan told police he'd witnessed the woman's assault and chased the mugger down the street, confronting and then shooting the mugger. The man told police he had a concealed carry permit, and immediately turned over his gun to police.

Police also found the gun supposedly used in the crime itself. The woman assaulted was bleeding from her head but her injuries were not considered serious.

Police are still investigating the incident, and anyone who can help clear up what happened can call the TIPS line at 612-692-8477.
