Occupy MN: Protesters block streets outside Wells Fargo Center [VIDEO]

Protesters are sitting in the middle of the intersection.
Roughly 1,000 protesters marched from Peavey Plaza to Wells Fargo this afternoon in an attempt to storm the Wells Fargo Center lobby.

But when they arrived they found the doors to the bank were locked with Minneapolis police guarding all entrances.

In a spur of the moment decision by organizers, 20 members of the group who'd already committed themselves to getting arrested sat in the middle of the intersection of 6th Street and Marquette, blocking traffic, while the rest of the marchers swirled around them.  Minneapolis police directed traffic and milled around the edges of the protest as the marchers attempted to send a delegation into the bank building. They were repeatedly rebuffed, so the protesters remained seated in the intersection, chanting and listening to speakers.

The sizeable crowd was made up largely of labor unions like SEIU, TakeAction Minnesota, Minnesotans for a Fair Economy, and Occupy MN participants.

Watch below as protesters make their way down Nicollet Mall to the bank, then scramble for an alternate plan once the bank doors are locked (highlights include a tap-dancing grandma and an utterly unconvinced passerby at about 1:30):

wow this is ridiculous.. foreclosure is not the banks issues, its your issue. If you signed the contract to get that mortgage and decide not to make the pymts and they want to forclouse they should! Shit if you borrowed someone 200k and they didnt pay you back like you said you'd be pissed. Do these people really think the bank should just let them live in their homes without paying their mortgage on time? NO! Maybe you just cant afford your home anymore, quit trying to blame the banks for eveything.

I've been wondering where Sara Jane Olson AKA Kathleen Soliah has been---Wasn't she the tap-dancing, gray-haired woman in the black outfit in this video?  It would be her kind of gig.

after watching that video, it just solidifies my belief that all the protesters are really bat-shit crazy.  go home you lunatics.  if it comes to the point that you have to make a choice about foreclosure, maybe you should have thought about it before you signed the contract.  or maybe just get another job like the responsible people in America do.  if you want handouts, go elsewhere.  or just vote for obama again, he's doing everything in his power to keep the welfare state in this country alive.

The Occupy Wall Street movement is no more about wealth-envy than 9-11 was about 'freedoms'-envy. That right wing talking point (like most right wing talking points) is simplistic and moronic.

Corporations, my friends, are NOT people. Unregulated, they devour indiscriminately our natural resources and human potential. If we don't leash them our children -- not to mention all the other living things on this beautiful planet -- will have nothing. You've been bamboozled if you think these non-human entities are on your side. They are not. Most exist to expand their dominance, not to contribute to our positive evolution -- that is their nature.

P.S. I'm 52 and I have a job.

I was a part of this rally today and I think that any person who is narrow-minded enough to say that these people just woke up. I know me personally and countless other people were up and out doing our part since early hours this morning and for days out of this week. You also should know that a lot of the people there are people that work hard everyday and alot of them are working hard so people in this state and country do not lose what we now and those who came before us have worked so hard for. If we continue to let these banks and big corporations take over we will be left with nothing. It is time that all of us stand up for ourselves and for our future generations. Any of you on here complaining must not care what could happen to yourself or your children or family. Everyone wants to complain about how horrible our econonomy is and how their are no jobs but want to do nothing but talk about it. But we are out here fighting for everyone whether they agree with us or not. It is time we take a stand and fight for what is right! I believe that if you don't care than that is fine it is everyones individual choice but don't take away from people who do believe in what we are doing and trying to accomplish and don't judge anyone if you don't know their story. Narrow minded thinking is what keeps the rich and greedy in power! Think before you decide to speak about something if you don't know all sides of the story.

Whose streets?!?

Middle class white people with college degrees that end in an 'A' and not an 'S'!!!

Their streets eh...didn't see them when I went to take the bus.....don't expect much support from the people you inconvenienced today.....like the bank tellers (of whom you possibly cost wages), the customers that had to go elsewhere and the thousands that work downtown....the same people you want their support....in the end, you inconvenienced the wrong people more than your targeted audience...

ROCKIN'! ALL SUPPORT TO YOU!

Sad, all the people who worked a full day work trying to get home now have to deal with this crap going on because the people who just woke up decide to make the 99% of peoples life hell getting home.. way to go

wow.  it's a "raid"?  bad choice of words city pages and "occupy".  kinda reminds me of how bad palin got destroyed for the whole "target" thing in AZ.  you people will go to no ends to get your "fair share", won't you?  just think if the tea party would do something as stupid as this?  just keep on chuggin' "occupy", my tax dollars will support the police that need to babysit your crazy asses.  i wonder if the crime rates in Minneapolis will go up now because these police need to be down there.  just think of all the extra tax money you are creating though!  way to go!  way to stimulate the economy!!!

Are corporations robots?

It's sad and pretty insane when people think otherwise about corporations.  Businesses are fine when they are run by thinking people with a mission to fill a niche and provide useful services or products. But when they are steered by bean counters, boardroom committees etc. with no other idea than "more money whatever the cost" they are basically cancerous and should be put to an end.

Nooooooo, 'narrow-minded' thinking is what keep you nice people in the streets shooting your wad ineffectually instead of camping out in legislators offices where the tax laws are written and passed.

People can get hurt playing in the street like that.  I certainly woudn't sit in an intersection with green lights allowing cars to go through.

So 3 minutes extra commute time pisses you off enough to register a nickname and then bitch on a website but you are fine with all the bad shit Wall Street did screwing up the economy?  You are a very very very stupid person.

Just asking but do you even understand what the point of this whole thing against wall street and the big banks is about? Do you understand that hardworking people who pay all their bills on time are still losing their homes because of power hungry people at the banks think it is ok to raise their interest rates and payments so that the people who could afford their homes no longer can and than take the homes from these people. Also we do go after the legislators not to long ago we were taking action against them. You have to go to all sides. And if someone says this does not get any results you are wrong! The march into US bank the other day that some may not even know about actually got a response in saving a family's home that never should have been saved in the first place if it wasn't for the person(s) that caused this in the first place. We believe everyone should have their fair share in this world. Whether that mean jobs or money or rights. I stand behind all in what their are doing and its not just in Minnesota its actually all over the country and possibly now becoming global. Its not just one person's fight so we all need to stand up. Unless of course you are one of the money hungry corporation or reaping the benefits for one and don't care about the rest of the people this has effected and still could. OPEN your eyes people and see what is really happening to this country! At my age when I retire unfourtunately all the money I have paid and will continue to pay will no longer be there! For me or my generation. Hard working young people with good college degrees can't get jobs in their field. And so much more. Tell me this important and if it is how you feel well like I said your choice I don't judge you so you shouldn't judge us but I can almost bet that if it happened to you or someone you cared about it might become a little more important and if it still doesn't than I feel bad for you and your family for being so heartless. Also I'm far from a lazy, young, idiot that has nothing better to do. I am a twenty-four year old full time worker, full time student and also full time mother. So just to prove that ALOT of us are hard working people and not sleeping in until 4 in the afternoon.
