Former Tom Emmer campaign chief and current state representative Mark Buesgens has a month to redeem his foreclosed home or lose it, records show.

Buesgens purchased the home, a Jordan mansion, in 2004, from Washington Mutual Bank. The mortgage was over $644,000. It was foreclosed on this spring and sold in a sheriff's sale by the Scott County Sheriff May 17 to JP Morgan Chase, which bought it for $232,554.50.

The state rep can still get it back if he can afford it: sheriff sales allow a six month redemption period.

Buesgens declined to comment on whether he will be able to keep his house when the redemption phase ends in a month.

"My family has had a tremendous amount of public scrutiny over the past twelve months and as you can imagine, it has taken it's toll," Buesgens wrote in an email to City Pages. "Of course, I should the full responsibility for whatever has come my way."

He said he's moving forward with his family, "with our heads up."

Buesgens has had a tumultuous year. He had to quit his position as chairman of the House State Government and Finance Committee last winter after a September DWI where he drove his car into a ditch. The arrest was caught on tape.
