Sturrock wriggles out of the stirrups.
The almost-unwatchable train-wreck that is the Minnesotan Republican Party wrecks onward.

Last night, Secretary Treasurer David Sturrock tendered his resignation, effective January 19. In his barbed letter to other Republicans, Sturrock seems to indicate that his decision was triggered by today's announcement that the party is about $2 million in debt, largely in part due to the gubernatorial recount process.

"I was neither consulted nor informed about the attorney's regarding 2010 recount costs," he writes.

Brock Lesnar is no longer an Ultimate Fighter
Brock Lesnar retired from the UFC tonight after losing in the first round to Alistair Overeem.

Lesnar took a brutal liver kick that crumbled him to the ground, then Overeem continually punched Brock in the face until the referee called a halt to the bout.

Immediately afterward, Brock told Joe Rogan that it was the last time we would see him in the Octagon. He said he promised his wife and kids he would fight once more for the heavyweight title if he won, or would retire if he lost.

Former GOP Party Chair Tony Sutton is batting 2 million.
According to new figures released today by the Republican Party's own Internal Finance Review Committee, the GOP is up to its neck in debt -- about $2 million worth.

"The debt number is honestly higher than any of us wants it to be," said chair Jeff Johnson at a press conference. "There's some ugly stuff in here."

Previous estimates placed the debt amount at $1 million, but that was before it was revealed that Republicans could be on the hook for over $700,000 worth of fees from the 2010 gubernatorial recount.

Top 10 City Pages Features of 2011

twitterbackground2011.jpg
A quick glance at our list of the most popular City Pages print features of 2011 and it seems the year was filled with more than a few scandals. Scandal in the senate office, behind the scenes of our school boards and the offices of our medical professionals. Even the Food Network wasn't safe from our prying eye.

But woah there, what's this? The feature pulling the most pageviews by far was an homage to a Minnesota export that became popular in 1980s green-screened computer classrooms everywhere: The Oregon Trail.

Gander back through time with us, would you?

Kent Sorenson's defection is driving Michele Bachmann nuts
Michele Bachmann's hopes for an improbable late rally in Iowa received the unkindest cut of all.

Yesterday, apparently just hours removed from campaigning with Bachmann, her Iowa campaign co-chairman pulled a Brutus and publicly threw his support behind Ron Paul.

Et tu, Kent Sorenson?

KEYC Mankato anchor Annie Stensrud was three times over legal alcohol limit after arrest

Thumbnail image for Annie Stensrud.jpg
No one's laughing all that hard now.
Although neither internet celebrity anchor Annie Stensrud nor her home station KEYC ever confirmed or denied that she was drunk in a broadcast that went viral on YouTube, the latest developments in her story do not look good.

About a week ago, Stensrud was pulled over and arrested for a "probable cause DWI." That kind of language was about as ambiguous as the non-denial-denial that Stensrud released after her viral broadcast.

Now the sheriff's department has released the results of Stensrud's blood alcohol test and it's not pretty.
