Amy Koch wants forgiveness for her affair with a senate staffer
Amy Koch apologized late this afternoon for "engaging in a relationship with a Senate staffer," though she did not name the individual.

Koch declared in an official statement that she's "made some mistakes and errors in judgment" and has "deep regret." She apologized to constituents, the Republican party, fellow legislators, and her family.

"The events of recent days have been very difficult for me and those close to me," Koch said.

Koch did not address the public speculation about the identity of the staffer with whom she was having the affair, widely rumored to be communications chief Michael Brodkorb, who was ousted from his positions with the GOP in the wake of Koch's resignation.

Instead, she emphasized that what she did with her staffer was not a crime. Although she had an "inappropriate relationship" with a subordinate, Koch denied she had "violated any laws or Senate rules" or "misused any state funds or property."

Koch ended her statement by writing that she needs to focus on the "challenging days ahead" while she works through "some very personal issues."

Koch isn't the only Republican going through some serious issues these days. City Pages broke down the MNGOP All-Scandal Team earlier today, reported on Michael Brodkorb's domestic dispute earlier this week, and revealed Tony Sutton's big tax problems with the Department of Revenue last fall.

I have been thinking that Michael Brodkorb is a sacrificial lamb.  It has felt to me as though the "inappropriate relationship" was a like-gendered relationship.  She would be correct, then,  that she had done nothing illegal as the laws displayed below do not apply to a like-gendered relationship.  I fear that this will only result in removing the referendum from next November's ballot.  I am going to write ALL my state representatives and insist the referendum stay on the ballot.  Let's have our chance to speak out about this issue and BE DONE WITH IT.

Let me say this...I am no fan of this woman, I think her pushing for this 1 man 1 woman bill was obnoxious...and she is reaping her just rewards...

However, I think the gay group could have taken a higher road and not gone in such a petty direction. Her idiocy and hyppocracy (sp?) are destroying her career on its own.

The best thing the gay group could have done was just step back and let her do herself in. I just think the group is doing more harm for themselves...

Ms. Koch is a good Christian woman, who I am sure holds the Bible dear to her heart. Deuteronomy 22 states that a woman who commits an act of adultery like she has should be stoned to death in the town square. Perhaps she can rush some laws through the state legislature that will hold true to her faith so she can be properly punished for what she has done.

Homophobia is a sin like lying, stealing and murder. Where there is homophobia, you will always find more sins. Sin begets sin, in this case, adultery. Instead of ripping apart loving gay families, radical anti-gay activist Koch needs to find Jesus!

I'm amazed anyone would want to fuck her in the first place. Straight men will obviously fuck anything

She needs to focus on some "very personal issues" which do NOT include stopping being a slut and an adulteress but they DO include breaking up the marriages of respectable gay couples that make her look like more of a whore.

And you know what... yes... I went there.

If she's allowed to say my 20-year marriage is a danger to society, I'm perfectly happy calling a "slut" and "slut."  And she's a slut.

Why apologize for doing exactly what is expected of you? Do we really expect anything different from these types? It's perfectly predictable behavior. Don't apologize! Own your badge of hypocrisy with pride garl ;-)

> Koch denied she had "violated any laws or Senate rules" or "misused any state funds or property."

Was that impromptu spinning of the facts or did someone already ask her whether she expects to be arrested or indicted?

No one has offerred any specifics but the implication is that she had sex with one of her staffers. If she never did the deed, and was merely overly friendly with one of her staff then why take the extreme step of resigning her leadership position??? Resigning makes no sense unless some there was some sort of naked or semi-naked consummation of the "inappropriate" relationship.

Assuming that sex was indeed involved, then it looks to me like Koch is unaware that Adultery is a rather serious criminal offense in Minnesota. If her husband files a complaint she could end up spending a year in jail.

2011Minnesota Statutes, 609.36

609.36 ADULTERY.

Subdivision 1.Acts constituting. When a married woman has sexual intercourse with a man other thanher husband, whether married or not, both are guilty of adultery andmay be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than one year or topayment of a fine of not more than $3,000, or both.

Subd. 2.Limitations.

No prosecution shall be commenced under this section except oncomplaint of the husband or the wife, except when such husband or wifeis insane, nor after one year from the commission of the offense.Subd. 3.Defense.

It is a defense to violation of this section if the marital statusof the woman was not known to the defendant at the time of the act ofadultery.

Hopefully next she'll apologize for ushering the abomination that is the "marriage amendment" through the legislature.  That's truly shameful.

It's all well and good she apologized but a true repentant would have included apologies to those she condemned for behavior less repugnant than her own.

Don, I think you know the best thing you could do as her apologist is to  stop kissing the republican parties ass. The public understands an adulterer actions. We certainly know why she resigned and so do you. I think your shallow advice highlights your small...

I don't see anything wrong in pointing out her blatantly hypocritical behaviour.  If people didn't call her out for this, it wouldn't reach as many ears.

she violated one of the Ten Commandments. That deserves some extra punishment.
