Twin Cities 13th "most lesbianish" metro, says Jezebel

If the recent lists are to be believed, MSP is slightly more gay than lesbian.
Minneapolis-St. Paul is the 13th "most lesbainish" metro in the country, according to Jezebel's first-ever ranking of lesbian hot spots.

Jezebel doesn't explain the list's methodology, so take it for what it's worth, but the Twin Cities gets kudos for our abundance of piercing-laden bicycle chicks, Carleton College (how is Carleton more of a lesbian haven than St. Kate's?), and a certain championship-winning professional basketball team.

Anne Stensrud was nearly four times over the limit
Annie Stensrud has been charged with a DWI in connection with a December arrest for drunk driving.

Stensrud became a national celebrity in early December after slurring her way through the opening of a news broadcast for KEYC Mankato, a CBS-Fox affiliate. The embarrassing segment led viewers to speculate that she was drunk and made her the subject of a David Letterman Top Ten List.

A couple weeks later, on December 21, Stensrud was arrested in North Mankato for DWI. She had a blood alcohol concentration of .31 at the time of her arrest, which was just before noon. Now she's been formally charged with one gross misdemeanor count and two misdemeanor counts of drunken driving.

Dayton blasts Republicans after nominee ousted for backing clean energy

Ellen Anderson.jpg
Repub Senators to Anderson: You aren't down with coal and natural gas? Then get the frack out!
Are you a supporter of renewable energy? Perhaps you've said a derogatory word or two about fossil fuels in the past? Then, in the eyes of the MNGOP, you aren't fit to serve as chair of the Public Utilities Commission.

The first political eruption of the 2012 legislative session happened yesterday after Senate Republicans ousted former DFL Senator Ellen Anderson from her job as PUC chair in a 37-29 party-line vote. Anderson was first appointed to the position last March and didn't need Senate approval until the start of the 2012 legislative session.

The city of Minneapolis paid $4.7 million in 2011 for settlements and liability claims involving the police department, making it the biggest year for police-related payouts since 2007, according to data maintained by the city.

The $4.7 million comes from 32 different cases. Four of these stem from incidents dating all the way back to 2003 and 2004, but the rest took place during Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan's tenure.

A payment of $1 million went to Rickia Russell. In February 2010, police officers threw a flashbang grenade into Russell's boyfriend's house, and the explosion seared her legs with third-degree burns.

We eat wheat, therefore we stay young.
A new study concludes that the Twin Cities are one of the best metropolises for staying young -- and we don't even need Botox to fend off father time.

The study, put together by the Real Age website, ranks MSP as the fourth best metro to remain youthful, behind San Francisco, Salt Lake City, and San Diego, respectively.

Real Age gathered information from more than 28 million people and determined the rankings based on lifestyle choices. Summarizing the methodology, Real Age co-founder Michael Roizen, M.D., said that "cities with the lowest stress are basically the youngest. Stress, smoking, diet, exercise -- all four of those seem to go together."
