There will be no sanctioned place to do stuff like this in summer 2012.
The most anticipated Lumberjack-themed event in Minnesota has been cancelled.

That's right: Lumberjack Days, the annual Stillwater tradition that has hosted bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, and Smash Mouth over the years, was terminated by a unanimous City Council vote Tuesday.

According to the resolution, the city is still fielding complaints from vendors who haven't been paid by the Lumberjack Days Festival Association from 2010 and 2011.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating allegations against the Association and St. Croix Events regarding unpaid creditors. The Sheriff's office projects the investigation will take at least another three and a half months to complete.

In the meantime, the Council determined that "the level of public disapproval of a continued 'collaboration' with either entity is damaging to the health, safety, and welfare of the community."

Among the allegations, according the Pioneer Press: the Association issued more than $35,000 in "worthless" checks to multiple vendors, including the high school hockey boosters.

Here's the Council's ruling in full:
