Wayne DeMay, southern MN man, charged with bigamy
| Wayne DeMay's first marriage must've been rough -- 26 days after tying the knot, he bolted, but never got divorced. |
Wayne DeMay, 41, faces one felony count of bigamy in Freeborn County, which is apparently a little closer to Utah than we thought.
In 2003, DeMay married Brigette DeMay (nee Beaumont), 40, in Kentucky, but fled Kentucky and his wife less than a month later. His estranged wife has recently been trying to track down her husband in order to complete a divorce and get remarried herself. She found him in Southern Minnesota, married to another woman.
The Albert Lea Tribune reports that Wayne DeMay married Constance Flim, 27, in May 2010. Marriage applications in Freeborn County ask applicants if they had had prior marriages. If the answer is yes, the clerk then asks for proof of divorce or death.
DeMay, however, said on his application than he had never been married.
Police approached DeMay after his estranged wife contacted Freeborn County authorities and alerted them to the dual marriages. Court files say DeMay told police he wants a divorce but can't afford one.
Perhaps DeMay should've just taken his young, new bride to the Utah/Arizona border. Chances are he wouldn't be facing a half-decade in the slammer in the land of plural marriages.
